Doesn't paint our club in a good light.

"Matt Beard bullied by Burnley before death, widow tells court. Wife says manager accused club of stopping him from joining Leicester in a video recorded prior to suicide."

      In the Burnley Distress:

Beard’s interim replacement Lou Roberts also resigned from her role at Burnley later in the season in February, citing “internal bullying” and a “toxic environment”.

“After one of the most adverse seasons I have ever experienced in my career, my role was at times overshadowed by idle gossip, internal bullying, control and silencing, which often conflicted with my core values,” she wrote as part of a lengthy statement posted to her Instagram account.

      WTF is going on?

Sounds like the Beards have a case if Lou Roberts statement is anything to go by

There's a certain irony going on here, Pace has recruited Diversity/Inclusion/Race/Bullying counsellors by the half dozen.

They seem to be about as much use as our recruitment team.

            Excerpt from behind the paywall,

"Women’s Super League side Leicester City wanted to hire Beard as their manager following his departure from Burnley and his family want a video he recorded shortly before his death to be heard in court.

Debbie, Beard’s wife, told the court: “Matt left Burnley of his own accord because he wasn’t happy there. But they wouldn’t allow him to move on [to another job]. I feel like they bullied him.

“Matt was the type of person who would say, ‘Yeah, I’m fine.’ He wouldn’t admit it to anyone. But you could see it in his manner at home.

“It’s quite clear in the video Matt left, naming [Burnley chairman] Alan Pace as the instigator who put a stop to him talking to Leicester City. Matt left that video for a reason. He wanted that to be found and he wanted his voice heard.”

Beard’s stepson, Scott Beard, told the inquest review he had concerns about the timing of social media posts which were “quite damaging” to the manager.

John Gittins, senior coroner, said he would invite Burnley to become an interested person in the proceedings. He said anyone who may, by act or omission, have caused or contributed to a death was entitled to interested person status.

The coroner said he would be making inquiries for further evidence from football agent Curtis Dawes and the League Managers’ Association, which Beard was said to have consulted because of concerns about his alleged treatment at Burnley.

Beard resigned as manager of Burnley in August 2025, with the club saying in a statement he had done so to “pursue other opportunities”.

A spokesperson for Burnley said: “Burnley FC is aware of an ongoing legal process and will not be making any comment at this time.”

Mrs Beard seems to be blaming Alan Pace for triggering her husband's death by suicide.

              Harsh if that is true.

Trouble with ascertaining the "truth" about what triggers the act of suicide is the person who actually knows the truth is dead.

It wasn't Mrs Beard mon ami, it was Matt himself who left the video implicating Pace. She just wants it played in court.

It he was mentally competent enough to criticise Alan Pace on a video recording may I respectfully suggest he was mentally competent enough to ring the Samaritans or check himself into a NHS mental health facility.

This blame culture we live in is really toxic.

Tragic case but if it was obvious in his manner at home then maybe she and her family should have tried to help him instead of trying to shift the blame onto somebody else after the event.

Ignore the signals and then cast the blame elsewhere. I feel a lawsuit coming on.

There is more to his suicide than Burnley FC and a job at Leicester.

I saw a couple of interviews with him when he was appointed. He came across as a gentle, Eeyore type character, and rather depressed.

Perhaps his family life was sh*t and to then have professional problems may have been the last straw.

Trouble is S_c we can speculate but we will not ever know what the actual trigger moment was. l hope the "Authorities" and the family do not attempt to lay the blame at either Alan Pace's door or Burnley Football Club. It's a tragic waste of a man's life that is for sure. R.I.P Matt.
