  • I'm quite a fan of the Smiths. A quiz question for you all.

Which famous lady of the 70's appeared on the cover of the Smiths great single album "Heaven knows I'm miserable now " ?

No googling please if you don't know it. Or if you do Google it don't put the answer up until everybody has had a chance to answer it. 😎

    • Back in the day I was knocking about with a lass who was a big Smiths' fan and I'm sure the cover photo was about the bird who spent BIG after a BIG Pools win but I can't remember her name.

        • I would have gone for Elsie Tanner so I would have got that wrong, for some reason I can remember seeing her on a cover back in the day

          • I never took the The Smiths, they always sounded miserable but without the soul that Leonard Cohen had.

            • I heard the Cohen track the other day which I liked even though I?m not a huge fan,the title was along the lines of If you want it Darker or summat

If it was indeed the big spending bird, I think she was called something like Dianne or Dianna Nicholson. No idea if she was the bint on the album cover though.

If you are the dealer, I'm out of the game
If you are the healer, it means i'm broken and lame
If thine is the glory, then mine must be the shame
                    You want it darker…

Well remembered chaincey. You should explore Cohen, he's done some good stuff, my favourite being Closing time "and the johnny walker wisdom's running high" reminds me of many an inebriated night. though these days it's more down to Cotes du rhone or Merlot, in my younger days it was Newcy brown (After 5 bottles I was anybody's though I usually got no takers).

                    • I listened to Closing Time and it was an unusually happy sounding song at first until you delve deeper,it?s an interesting song and I checked out the album as I thought that if it was on the same album as You Want It Darker then I would see if I could get a cheap copy on eBay but with only four tracks on I think that I will leave it,great shout though and I will certainly give it a few more listens

                      • Heart Full Of Songs- Graham Gouldman , Abergavenny, Last night

Graham Gouldman, legendary under rated British songwriter and founder member off 10cc, was the perfect pick me up , after the Clarets defeat at the Etihad. Not too many people realise he is responsible for writing sussessful songs for the past 60 years, for artists such as the Yardbirds, The Hollies, Wayne Fontana, and Herman?s Hermits. All songs that made a big impact on the pop charts , over the years.. last night, it was a pleasure to see him perform, singing all these songs, plus many more he recorded ,with the likes of Andrew Gold, and also, during his spell with 10cc. Great songs each and every one of them. The biggest applause ,was of course ,for huge 10cc hit ? I?m not in Love?.
A great evening all round, much appreciated by the audience in the small Borough Theatre. The final song of the evening, left everyone going home in a right feel good mood-Dreadlock Holiday.
                        I don?t like Abergavenny, I love it !!!
