  • My wish list for the 2021/22 season

    1) That home and away fans are allowed into our football grounds for every match.
    2) That an independent football regulator will have been appointed to reform the game’s governance. I was more than disappointed with the Premier League response that an independent regulator was not necessary as they were doing a good job. I don’t think so. Do you? The so-called “Big 6” were ready to sell us all out and it wasn’t the PL that stopped them or has adequately defended the football pyramid that goes right down to the grassroots of our game.
    3) That there will be no more “taking the knee” before matches. This has become an overplayed gesture which is having little or no effect at best. Many fans are quite prepared to stand up to racism but will not join in taking a knee. Hatred and racism have no place in sport and neither imho does the knee. Am I crazy to believe that if football wants to make headway here it should listen to the fans and not to political organisations?
    4) That players feigning injury and trying to get their fellow professionals sent off should be suitably punished. This is a cancer in the game and needs to be addressed. It is not enough to have a laugh at their antics on MOTD however well-intentioned that was. It is of little use for footballers to have “no to racism” and “respect” badges on their shirts when they cannot themselves adhere to these principles.
    5) That Nick Pope will still be in goal for Burnley having recovered from surgery and been part of an England squad who have been crowned European Champions.
    6) That Sean Dyche will still be our manager and will have been given substantial funds to buy players of the quality we need to finish in the top half of the table.

Enjoy your summer break fellow Clarets and hopefully some of my wish list will be fulfilled.

You would have had to be especially good to get that lot outwood!

These two will do for me:

        5) That Nick Pope will still be in goal for Burnley having recovered from surgery and been part of an England squad who have been crowned European Champions.

        6) That Sean Dyche will still be our manager and will have been given substantial funds to buy players of the quality we need to finish in the top half of the table.

Southgate has omitted Pope from his provisional squad. That’s my accumulator down the Swanee already!

Football is a mess Outwood, we both know that, but for the life in me I cannot see what good an independent regulator would be. Just another pointless level of governance imo.

This taking the knee pantomime could get really entertaining when the grounds are full again. There has already been some booing from small crowds, and some players are saying this will inspire them to keep taking the knee. Millionaire footballers want to take on 50,000 plus working class fans. Best of luck with that lads, in fact the prospect almost entices me to buy a ST again, then I could join in with the booing.

The infantile behaviour of players will continue, and Pope will continue as our keeper. Whether Dyche will still be here, who knows.

The Football Governance Bill has now been enacted. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football...s/c628yqmv8glo
I just hope that now fans and clubs will be protected from the worst excesses of owners’ incompetence and greed.

Well my wish list for that season (2021/22) didn’t really go to plan as Sean Dyche was sacked and we were relegated. However we now have a Football Regulator and at last the counter-productive knee taking looks likely to finally be consigned to the litter bin. There was however Euro heartache as Italy inflicted a painful penalty shoot out defeat on England in a final the host nation contrived to throw away after taking an early lead. It would finally be the Lionesses who were crowned European Champions twelve months later.

An 'independent' Regulator is now to be foisted on football by the moronic halfwits masquerading as politicians in our green and pleasant land. Another gravy train is about to depart, all aboard.

What could possibly go wrong ?

It is interesting sinkov that the body protesting most loudly is the Premier League. I wonder why?

The Premier League is highly successful, it's a cash cow, our owners have often said how crucial it is that we are in it. if I was involved in a highly successful, money spinning business venture, the last people I'd want sticking their oar in is politicians, especially of the Labour variety.

Incidentally, in post 11, I mentioned 'gravy train', within less than a couple of hours I find this,

"The government's proposed choice of David Kogan as chair of English football's new independent regulator faces a "full inquiry" by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. William Shawcross has written to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), saying the move was "necessary" after "an initial assessment of this case, informed by spot checks". He added Kogan and the Secretary of State Lisa Nandy are likely to be interviewed, and his inquiry would ensure the selection "was made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments".

Kogan revealed last month he had contributed money to Nandy's Labour leadership campaign in 2020, along with that of the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. In April, Nandy said the 68-year-old sports media rights executive was the "outstanding candidate" to fill the position, despite not being on the original three-person shortlist. She has now removed herself from the final decision, delegating responsibility to the Sports Minister."

You couldn't make it up, all aboard.

I have no love for the Premier League at all. Selling hotels to yourself or your own women’s football team just so you don’t infringe financial rules should tell us all about that cesspit. Meanwhile much of grassroots football has been left to starve. When the Clarets are in the EPL I love it when they bloody the noses of the super elite. I just wish it was more often.
