Pace must be astute enough to know now that if he sells on too soon he depletes the squad and we sink. Only sell when you have someone decent to replace the player being sold.

It wasn?t written in the stars. It was clear as day. Juric made no difference at all to Southampton?s fate. Arguably their performances were even worse post Russell Martin. They have achieved the fastest ever relegation from the EPL and they may yet set a new record low points total.Originally posted by outwoodclaret View PostWolves sack O?Neil and Saints quickly follow suit by ditching Russell Martin. I suspect that the change of manager will probably make little difference to the survival chances of either club. Wolves have sold off a number of their top players but with their experienced squad have an even chance of getting out of the bottom three with or without a new manager. Saints look like Burnley last year and frankly are as doomed as we were. Sacking VK imo would have made no difference whatsoever to our chances of staying up and with the benefit of hindsight would have been a financial blunder given his subsequent move to Bayern. I see a lot of comment on social media (on Facebook chiefly) that Pace is utterly clueless. I suspect that on the contrary he is a shrewd businessman and has a clearer understanding of what is needed at Burnley than many realise.

For me, Alan Pace is beyond reproach. I think he accepts we cannot compete with the really big boys but he keeps the club liquid, we play to a full house every week, our global reach is extending and he has the cojones to play the EPL yo-yo card. Keep the faith. UTC#Originally posted by mnrht View PostIf we get promotion, then I think we will see if Pace has any real ambition for this club as a football club.

Not beyond reproach I think BT but very shrewd and understands Burnley (the town and the football club) to a far greater degree than people realise. There will be big challenges ahead if we achieve promotion back to the EPL at the end of this season. Pace will have had the experience of our last disastrous campaign in the PL under Kompany and hopefully he has absorbed the lessons of that failure. It is very easy for a team to totally disintegrate in the PL following promotion as both Leicester and Southampton have shown this season. Ipswich have shown a lot more bottle but as many suspected when they won promotion they would also struggle. Gaining a foothold in the PL is incredibly difficult as its slopes are steep and slippery. What Sean Dyche achieved at Burnley was quite simply extraordinary. We might not see its like again but I hope we do.Originally posted by The Bedlington Terrier View PostFor me, Alan Pace is beyond reproach. As usual a well thought out and well presented opinion piece Sir Outwood. Another aspect to consider is that for Cardy Parker this would be his third attempt at staying in the EPL with a team he has got promoted. He impresses me with his deliberations and calmness, if Pace backs him, who knows what next season might bring?

If we get promotion this season I put it down to having a bloody good manager in Parker who has impressed me from the day he arrived at our club.
Alan Pace deserves credit for hiring Scotty. Bayern Munich also deserve some credit for relieving us of that self serving Buffoon,(Kompany) complete with the 10 million compensation

Der Kaiser's reputation in Germany is in orbit. Already being touted as a future manager of Real Madrid. Not a buffoon - leave that title for Perma Tan.Originally posted by ballcock View PostIf we get promotion this season I put it down to having a bloody good manager in Parker who has impressed me from the day he arrived at our club.

It?s not Potter! or Farke! Nuno Espirito Santo unexpectedly wins this season?s race to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked. That?s the gratitude you get from Chairman in the EPL for qualifying for Europe or even winning a European Trophy (see under Postecoglou). Let the musical chairs begin!

Postecoglou mentioned already as a replacement, Mourinho available who, incidentally, has received at least GBP80m from his many sackings. Nuno had almost 3 years on his contract, so he won't be losing any sleep.
Why does this forum get punctuation marks mixed up, I used a pound sign which turned into a question mark?Last edited by wmdave_b; 09-09-2025, 04:17 AM.
