BBC and Yorkshire

What is it that has always attracted the BBC to Yorkshire, like a pile of iron filings to a magnet?

I keep remembering series of old, like I Didn’t Know you Cared, Last of the Summer Wine, Dinner Ladies and that other one set in a police station (Rosie? The Thin Blue Line? Both?)

Now, on a friend’s recommendation, I’ve gone back and watched all of Happy Valley which was awesome and I’m now on Last Tango in Halifax which is equally gripping. There’s something about the vein of gentle humour that’s runs through them all that is appealing.

So why Yorkshire, and are there any I’ve missed?

Heartbeat and Where The Heart Is are both set in Yorkshire and on ITV3 everyday so it's not just the BBC that's been in love with the area,of course Yorkshire is beautiful with its scenery and seaside resorts but unfortunately has lancastershire as it's next door neighbour

I've been thinking about watching giving Happy Valley a look myself Griff but haven't got round to watching yet

I never watched it because I wasn’t all that keen on Sarah Lancashire (who, strangely, is from Oldham) as an actress. I was wrong, she’s brilliant, as is the whole show. There’s this evil sod, Tommy Lee Royce, who has affected her family and gets out of prison. She’s a copper in a broken family trying to cope then it all goes tits up. It’s dark and funny at the same time and each series has another case going on in the background which are equally riveting. Three series, 18 programmes in all. WATCH IT.

Absolutely Griff,all northerners sound the same to me,Yorkshire, Lancashire,Geordie or Cumbrian it's hard for me to tell them apart

I dipped my toes into the first episode last night Griff and I'm gripped,infact I knew that it was going to be good just by the dark humour of the first five minutes when she was talking to the druggie who wanted to set himself alight and she bought herself some sunglasses first because "he can take himself to paradise if he wants but he's not taking my eyebrows with him"
I shall binge on the remaining first series on Sunday, excellent choice

Just finished watching the first series Griff and what can I say but superb,cracking story and the storyline never wavered in how good it was,when the kidnapped girl got rescued from the cellar at the end of episode four I thought that the final two episodes would have to be padded out but definitely not,I wasn't even sure if her grandson would make it to the end tbh,the only thing is series two can't possibly be as good because it's a hard act to follow script wise 10/10

Anyway any program that has a Notts superfan Jake Bugg track as it's theme tune just has to be good

Really chuffed you enjoyed it. There are different storylines in the other two series but they’re every bit as good. The second series is about eigh**** months after the first then the last series is about five years later. Great storytelling and I didn’t know that Jake Bugg is a Notts fan.

Jake is a life long Notts fan,I've seen him down The Lane a few times,check out our away shirt 😏

I will watch the second series next Sunday but there's no way that it's going to be as good
