Uncertain what we will get today. Will it be the good which the players are capable of? Or will it be the negative which all too often we have witnessed? No prediction from me.

I suspect that the absence of Agius will spark a few changes, today. Lee Bell will be tempted, after Tuesday's display, to draft in Tezgel. That may lead to a formation change or not. The Alex played with a 'sort of 2 upfront' in the paint pot pizza cup so he might try that again. However, that was very successful against Chesterfield's high line. Colchester, I suspect, will not be playing a high line. Yet, Powell's performance against Swindon and the chance that Thomas is still unfit leaves another change possible. As we are short of clearly definable midfielders, the only other option is Lunt. This possibility opens the doors for a truly attacking line up with Moult up top closely followed by Tezgel and March wider with O'Reilly continuing on the other side.
This could leave us exposed when not in possession as it's very close to being 4-2-4. I'm not sure Lee Bell can countenance such a risky venture so possibly he'll stick to just the one change. I can't see any of the 3 new ones starting though I expect 2 will be on the bench.
With hints of both pessimism and optimism, I'll settle for our first draw. 1-1.

So Golding plays. Is this backsliding by Lee Bell or is he in as deep midfield? 5-3-2 or 4-1-2-3. Or is Bell revealing his inner Guardiola by having Billington push into midfield from right back.
Whatever, I hope that LB has panicked and resorted to last season's inferiority complex.

Lead by March well against the run of play. Good save by TB on 40th minute. Cannot understand why we are committing stupid fouls and getting silly yellow cards. Unless our players attitude changes we will be lucky if we complete the game with 11 players.

Well, we're winning but I'm finding it worrying. Very lethargic/timid. Where the press gone? Of the two teams we're the one's playing long ball. Before the goal, Sanders should have scored. His effort was indicative of the whole performance. The ball came to him with the defence's eye taken off the ball by Tezgel (?) lunging at the ball and missing. He should then have hit it first time but he stopped the ball, looked up, switched feet, looked again then shot. The ball actually travelled all of 6 inches as he'd taken so long, the defence had recovered and got a challenge in.
So not shooting on site and not snapping into challenges, the opposite to how we successfully started the season.

What an awful game. Last season all over. Has Bell chucked the early tactics for the poor quality drivel of last season just because of one result - Swindon? There was no excuse today. Colchester actually tried to play football but we stood off and let them make the running. It's a good job Colchester can't take their chances.
Early season happiness now beginning to drain away.

We need to get rid of all the coaches and managers and the academy here and get an experienced manager like Swindon did. The newcomers made the difference in the first 4 games but they have been training in a failed academy where not one player has been sold from there in ten years. The Chairman clearly doesn't know football either.Originally posted by lukcour View PostJust listened to LB`s views on the game. Talk about deluded. IMO this is getting really worrying. Is it time for change? Possibly another assistant manager from our existing coaches.

We should remember that Colchester were near the bottom of the league and so we should have outplayed them based on our first four games but seems the bubble has burst and LB does not know what to do like the post Christmas period. Colchester could easily have won that game.Originally posted by gazan View PostWhat an awful game. Last season all over. I met to add that no player was sold for a million pounds and it was Dario who said that we needed to sell a player EACH season for I cannot remember now but it was something like three quarters of a million pounds and I just looked at how many Cat2 Academies there are in 2025 at L1 and L2 and there are Crewe, Colchester and Fleetwood and probably one or two more at L1 and the the obvious question. Why so few Cat2 IF they are that good and we are one of the poorest financial clubs in the league? The intention was to sell to PL clubs and not clubs at the lower levels and when clubs like Liverpool can afford to pay £130m for ONE player, then you would think players from our academy would be worth a bit. But PL clubs want success now not in three or four years time etc.
I just think we could do a lot better without all the coaches and managers and a Cat2 academies but nothing will change obviously.
Cat4 is the better for us IF we have to have one.
