Thanks Swale. Yes the memories are good so that's great.
With it being the festive season my memories of Xmas of the early 50's when I was still a kid growing up are quite vivid. Boy, what a difference to Xmas now!
When you think of the toys we got as presents and what's available now it's almost beyond comprehension, but (and this is what's important) they were still bloody good times! Times thankfully I can still recall!

Tell me about it, we got 1 main present, with a pillow case popped at the end of the bed with as I recall satsumas, socks, a selection box and other odds and sods. But as you say we had fun.

Sounds like you grew up in the same house as me Swale! When it came to the selection box, things were very patchy though - a nice Cadbury box was a real treat, those nasty cooking chocolate tool sets were nasty - not unlike the Kinnerton dross of today

It is mad how (some) kids are spoiled today. My nephews and nieces get an horrendous amount spent on them at Christmas, so much they often have toys that aren't opened upto a year later.

When I was growing up if I wanted something expensive something had to go to contribute to the cost of the new present, a good example was the year I had a zx spectrum my Atari had to be sold beforehand.

I still love Christmas though from decorations to cheesy movies to spending time with family.

That said I'm ready for my spell of winter sun next week.

A pillow case! You were lucky! I got one of me dad’s big socks stuffed with much the same as you and GP, plus some chocolate cigarettes and a liquorice pipe which probably constitutes child abuse nowadays. Mind you…we were happy.

Ammy says "no Crimbo progress here yet". Tree will be purchased in about 10 to 14 days time. A proper one, not a plastic one. It, and the other decortaio pieces, will remain in situ until 12th night.

For historian buffs among us, the tree, up until Victorian times, went up on the 22nd or 23rd of December.
