A return to form or will the lack of our talisman striker be our undoing?

    Anyone?

Be nice to beat Leicester, I'll be positive and say 2-0 Derby.

When you think about the relative fortunes of the two teams over the last decade I’m just grateful to be playing them without the outcome being a foregone. 2-2.

If we could stop conceding late goals then 2-1 would be nice, but there is a pattern emerging, so 2-2 for me.

They've won 8 of our last 9 meetings...

            2-2 Salvesen and BBD

              Make that 9 out of 10, 0 - 1!

Make that 10 out of 11 soon as well 0-1 and 3-1

Quite nice to see they are potentially getting hit with more points deductions considering they are a big factor in other clubs being penalized for admin/ffp etc.

Well at lest we have stopped conceding late goals! Now just have to stop conceding early goals and we will be fine.

Injuries have played a part, but we are a mid table team, unsurprisingly.

Exactly right, and that’s where most expected us to be, but that first half defending was awful and along with another horrible Ashes performance it’s made for a miserable day.

                        Questions from today.
Can we pick ourselves up in time for the visit of Millwall on Wednesday?
Have we got any subs left who can make a difference, because only Thompson could claim to have made much impact today imo.
Was Adams substituted because of injury, poor performance, or likelihood of collecting a red card having earned his 7th yellow? (Unusual for a captain to be removed at half time unless injured.)
What do we do in less than a month’s time as regards strengthening? With a little more luck on the injury front we’ve already probably got enough in the squad to stay up but do we still have any realistic aspirations beyond mid table?

In another world we were allegedly only a gnats cod from going second recently.
It must have been a Michael Bentine sketch!

Defensive errors helped them greatly. We could have had more goals but weren't effective enough.

Amazingly the stats were in our favour. 61.6% possession which is really strange for us. 1.36 xG to their 1.2. 18 shots, 5 of which were on target to their 4 and 4 (source BBC).

The possession stats are, IMO, skewed in our favour because they came out 2nd half with the idea of doing game management. 3 up, no need to do much. Simply contain, do everything possible to run the clock down and watse time wherever feasible.

Nelson came on and alomost scored with his first ball contact. Their keeper made 4 decent saves to JWZs 2. Saw one eejit on "socials" post game saying JWZ needs to go. Not at fault for any of the goals.

We changed to 14231 and looked better. At HT in the Norwich game we ditched that to go 1343. Now we've reversed that. Does that possibly show that, rather than having a one size fits all formation, we should look, per game, at how the oppo plays, who their danger players are and in what position and how do we set up to a) play to our best whilst b) stopping them. Horses and systems for courses?

Could have been worse if Ayew's goal hadn't been incorrectly chalked off. He wasn't offside.
