If you’d said RL - an example of how easy it is for poor administrators to ruin a great product I’d have agreed.
I’m no Humberside Robin, but a bit disappointing to see triple winning Hull Kingston Rovers get barely a mention last night amongst the team achievements.

Must admit haven't seen any RL for many a year / decade - so how has it been spoiled? I remember it from the days of Eddie Waring and being played on pitches that made the Baseball Ground in January look like a croquet lawn in comparison. Have the administrators banned the oop and oonder?Originally posted by ramAnag View Post

Never liked RL scrums as they always feed their hooker. To my great chagrin, Union wallahs have started doing it now. Sacrilege.Originally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostMust admit haven't seen any RL for many a year / decade - so how has it been spoiled? Eddie Waring hasn’t commentated since 1981, that’s 44 years ago!
Scrums in RL are nothing more than a restart procedure. Never had any of the technique - albeit largely unspectacular - of Union.
At its best RL is a much quicker and more expansive, running game imo, but at international level the RU occasion is streets ahead.
RL is poorly marketed, can’t make its mind up whether it wants to concentrate on the M62 corridor heartland or expand to London and the South of France, doesn’t understand (or care ?) what effect such an impact sport has on the players, fails to recognise that half empty stadiums (eg England at Wembley/Magic Weekend at St.James or Anfield) reflect badly on the game, so it just comes up with daft (Americanised) names eg Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Leigh Leopards and calls it progress.

I guess its quicker as there is more space on the field with less players, but doesn't the 4 (?) tackle rule before having to turn the ball over to the other side simply cramp ambition and building of position on the pitch in favour of more risk taking? Maybe that does create a more exciting product but must de-emphasise the virtues of defence?
I did say it was a long time since I'd seen any beyond the odd glimpse as I flicked channels

4 tackle rule replaced by 6 tackle rule over half a century ago I think.Originally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostI guess its quicker as there is more space on the field with less players, but doesn't the 4 (?) tackle rule before having to turn the ball over to the other side simply cramp ambition and building of position on the pitch in favour of more risk taking? Not SPOTY but somewhat related. The darts (didn't want to start a new thread).
The booing of Littler last night. Abhorrent.
The source? Well, it's a known fact that he gets booed at German tournaments and that is why he doesn't play in many German tournaments. Yesterday there was a plethora of germans in Ally Pally. Coincidence? I don't think it was.
