  • Matchday thread v Stoke (A)

1-2 win to start the season.

5 definitely out, Wilson, Langas, Nelson, Salvesen and Agyemang

3 doubtful Beck, Elder and Clarke. Going on the premise that none of them make it, I think we'll see pretty much the starting XI from pre season with newbies only getting a start if players are out.

    JWZ

    Nyambe Batth Sanderson Fozzy

    Kenzo Tommo

    Jackson Adams CBT

    Morris

Ozoh, Clark and the rest will be on the bench and 5 of them will get minutes in the 2nd half to build up fitness and put them in the frame for a start in a couple of weeks.

That's my thoughts, what are your opinions on the starting XI

I've lost track of who's fit. Opening game will throw up surprises selection wise. But going for a 3 nil victory for the rams. Will be watching from my hospital bed.

Hope you are progressing well Sith.
Despite your health glitch I see your positivity remains undimmed! I don't recall ever seeing the Rams win at their muck heap but as I'm not going I can't blight our chances.
Will be happy with a 1-1.

Back in the UK then, Sith. Good to hear, but I have to agree with mac…1-1 seems more likely than 0-3 and I’ll settle for that.
Hope the recovery continues and you’re back watching the football in the flesh - so to speak - asap.

Never especially confident about Stoke away, never especially confident about opening days. Balancing that against my lifelong blind optimism I'll go 1-1

            We're back, baby!
Will see a period of unrest as the squad comes together, injuries heal, players gel and Eustace finds his best 11, so only hoping for an average start to proceedings.
Going to say 0-1 to the Rams, late goal.
Hopefully Sith not connected to any heart monitoring, they'll think he's having multiple seizures.

This has draw written all over it so 1-1 for me.

Derby offer nothing in an attacking sense in the first half.

                    Ain’t that the truth.
Harsh final score but ce la vie.
Thought Batth and Morris looked promising, but unfortunately Stoke could cross and we managed about one all match, still it’s single figures in August. We’ll be okay.

Wow that unravelled quickly! Last time I looked it was 1-1 at 90+2, then somehow we ship 2 goals! Not good being unable to shut a game we played poorly in down.

Still at the very least it might dampen the unrealistic expectations of fans, given our injury list and the newbies to "bed in" I expect a slow start to the season. I fully expect it to be October before we hit our stride.

Only two newbies yesterday, Swale and both Batth and Morris performed well imo.
Ultimately disappointing, particularly CBT going off with a(nother) hamstring injury after a good pre season. Is he unlucky or just a sick note? I really don?t know but he doesn?t seem like our reliable wideman.
Agree about October?same with Jim Smith?s side, although he was helped by a certain iconic autumn signing.
Heard that Lewis Travis will be confirmed this week.

Sort that one out Eustace and it'll be worth 10 + points!

Yes RA only 2 new signings started, so effectively the old team plus 2. I'm not sure Batth did all that well, but he is in a new back line so he can be forgiven that. What is obvious, is that we need at least 1 if not 2 wingers, though maybe Brewster can be a creative force once fit? A bit worrying that CBT has an injury already, doesn't bode well.

I notice you haven't, so far slagged off Eustace for signing players with an injury!!!!

I haven't heard anything concrete about Travis other than paper talk, but we shall see.

LoL…should have expected that! Tbf…arriving with an acknowledged injury at the beginning of a season is one thing. Arriving and being almost constantly or repeatedly unavailable, eg Ward, CBT, Nyambe, Bradley, Waghorn and Washington, when you haven’t got a proverbial transfer pot to p*ss in, is another.

We shall see. Suffice it to say that, without expecting miracles, I have more confidence and hope in our summer signings and current squad than I have for a while but I agree with you, it’ll take a while for players to gel.
