The famous company said rising costs had "squeezed the business financially".

Yes and they seemed ‘optimistic’ on broadcast media. I always thought their problem was that their product was too durable and neutral in design so people tended to repeat buy infrequently.

Yes a shame for the staff if it either goes out of business or reduces in size but an even bigger shame for any business impacted by it who’ve really done nothing wrong

A lot of fingers pointing at Labour but the losses have been mounting up pre Labour.

They were hit hard with brexit as one of their key markets was the EU.

Administrators say the move marks the end of manufacturing at the pottery firm.

          Really sad, more redundancies.

I know a couple of guys (porcelain painters) who were made redundant in the collapse of Royal Worcester - which firstly merged into Spode and latterly Portmerrion. Its just one of those things where the hand made / quality end of the market is getting priced out of it. The guys I know took a long time to re-establish themselves in their own business but its very much niche and small, with the Worcester brand living on under new ownership but not made anywhere near Worcester - I guess same is likely for Denby brand, maybe switch manufacturing to South Korea??

Maybe, its a long commute for Dave from Elm Tree Avenue though.

The slightly less might be a lot less but it doesnt alter what you mean.

Denby is made to last, there are likely people using Denby decades old. Today we buy alternatives and aren't looking for longevity.

yup I bought some Denby serving dishes about 40 years ago - still got them despite various attempts to break 'em - and use more than once a week

Guess they won't be the new shirt sponsor then, GP.

It's yet another in the long line of British manufacturers that became redundant due to inferior mass produced stuff. Before them go some car manufacturers, other pottery firms, breweries and more. Either out of existence or production moved.
