There's been a lot of talk, all season, about our poor start to the season. I went online and got a League table based on game 11 onwards. We were 3rd. Is this what we might reasonably expect next season with similar or better quality in the squad?

Yeah I think having a fit squad from day 1 will be massive. Not sure even how much we need in the incoming area.Originally posted by MadAmster View PostThere's been a lot of talk, all season, about our poor start to the season. Patrick will be a big miss though.

Pat will, indeed, be a huge blow. A lot will depend on who leaves and who replaces them and also do any of the Academy lads like Eames or Allen break through and deliver.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostYeah I think having a fit squad from day 1 will be massive. I hope key signings are Ozoh, Bobby Clark, even BBD When did we last have such good loans?Originally posted by MadAmster View PostPat will, indeed, be a huge blow. I like the look of Banel as well. Unfortunately, as Burnley are coming back down, they will want him back for next season.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostI hope key signings are Ozoh, Bobby Clark, even BBD When did we last have such good loans?
Szmodics? Considering his age and what Ipswich are said to want for him, it's everything the club's stated incoming transfer policy isn't. He's not young, not going to get any better and not going to generate a profit, or even a transfer fee, 3 years down the line. I'd be surprised if we bought him unless we can get him for 1.5M max.

Briefly, Gary Teale. Signed in 2007 from Wigan, for maybe 40 games he was shocking, then by some miracle (or some ringer adopting his life) he turned things around and for the next maybe 25 games he was unplayable, earning a nickname a bit like Matt Clarke has done recently, Tealinho. His form then drifted a bit again and his contract wasn't renewed at the end of 2010Originally posted by SithHappens View PostWhen has a player turned it around how BBD has? I never thought he was as bad as some made out early on but hes been very good of late.
Also, Bruce Rioch had a shocking first few games, I recall the BBG crowd cheering his replacement during a game against Burnley. He soon turned things round and emerged as a real battering-ram midfielder

I guess the 2007 era, Robbie Savage is an example. Poor start but ended up a good player.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostBriefly, Gary Teale. Good old Robbie, roundly hated for his penalty dive in the SE Corner when playing against us. Fans let him know that too. Turned it round though, aided by the fact that he was still a four letter expletive deletive but now he was ours, rather than theirs.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostI guess the 2007 era, Robbie Savage is an example. A story about Robbie. It all started with the January friendly in and against den Haag (ADO den Haag). He arrived late at the stadium due to having been refused boarding on the way out as he had, mistakenly, arrived at the airport with his wife's passport, not his own. He had to go back home, get his passport and catch a later flight. He then got a taxi from Schiphol Airport to the Hague. There was a Rams fan on the same flight and Robbie let the lad share the taxi. I knew all this because the lad was stood next to me in the ground. At one point, the 50 or so of us there chanted "taxi foe Savage". He laughed. Some years later, Derby played a L1 game at Forest Green Rovers. Four of us flew over and did hospitality at the game. Robbie's lad was at FGR at the time and Robbie did a Q&A. He had a chat and answered questions and then said "time for one more question". My hand was up in a shot. I asked him why he'd arrived late at the ADO ground. He knew I knew, immediately, and it showed. He told the story. Later, exiting the toilet, we bumped into each other. He called me an expletive, grinning from ear to ear and I got a hug. Quick chat with him and then back to hospitality.
