  • New DCFC Hall Of Fame Inductees

    Trouble at 'Mill.

Whoever allowed Eranio to be added to the Walk of Fame at Pride Park? ‍♂️ ‍♂️ An ideal opportunity to honour Jack Kirby who actually defied the Nazis. No... we'll honour the one who made the...

For those without fb, a fb poster is quesioning why Stefano Eranio is included as an inductee when he made a racist remark in 2015

My only comment is if this fellah wants a purge, there will be a number of other ommissions from those inducted, some of which are right up there in the top 5 or above.

It's an interesting one. I'm not aware of the reasons we might exclude others because of their past actions or things they have said?

What Eranio said was not dissimilar to what Ramage said yet Ramage was condemned by both club and fans., but Eranio is generally worshipped by club and fans.

Is it because what he said wasn't close to home? Or is popularity a factor?

ItÂ’s because there are double standards the world over

Im guessing any of those nazi sympathisers famously photographed in 1934 might all be thrown out then. its pathetic. The Hall is to reflect on great players, not great humans, otherwise vast swathes of former sportsman would be excluded from their respective halls - eg George best, Paul Gascoigne to name a few

Storm in a tea cup imo, which some will seek to make the most of for whatever reason.

Were Eranio’s comments foolish? Imo, yes.
Was Eranio a great footballer for DCFC? Imo, yes.

Is the Hall of Fame about football ability or ability to offer valid socio/political comment? Football ability.

I know nothing about the personal beliefs of Kevin Hector, Dean Saunders, Roy McFarland, Colin Todd, Bobby Davison, Dave MacKay etc and nor do I particularly want to, but they should all, imo, be in the DCFC Hall of Fame - as should Eranio - solely on the basis of their footballing ability.

The only exception I can think of to this is Jack Kirby who didn’t have a particularly distinguished playing career but showed a different sort of courage and bravery as a representative of Derby County.

Hence the phrase "never meet your heroes! "

One can appreciate a person for their art, skill or whatever it may be without having to make a judgement of their character. There are many musicians, footballers, composers etc. whose artistry and work I admire without necessarily liking the person.

As an example, Richard Wagner was a fantastic composer, but a horrible man, by all accounts.
