  • Matchday Thread: Rams v Coventry.

Last season saw a rare double. Hopefully we’ll be able to continue the run but I fear a draw is more likely.
A second successive league defeat would see anxiety levels rise amongst some, but this squad still has a long way to go before it is fully assembled let alone fully gelled, so 2-2 for me while remaining hopeful of something better.

    COYR. Do it for Sith!

I'm going for a 1 nil again to the Rams.

    Looking forward to the game.

I cant call this, have no idea what the team will be, a lucky draw perhaps, but fear defeat.

Yep, difficult isn’t it without knowing who’s fit and available? I’m just guessing a similar side to last Saturday with maybe a starting role for Ward and Ozoh.

No idea on result, hoping for a win obvs.

Trying to keep my brain in shape by recalling games from the past, they include a 1-0 FA cup defeat in the 70s when the rams played a night match during the power shortages by using a generator from International Combustion, and a game that sort of defined Georgi Kinkladze, he ran rings round Coventry but the game still ended 0-0

I'm in the same camp Swale but even less hopeful, 1-2 defeat with Frank's lot having far more in their locker than than the crap we've shown in our opening two matches.

The good news, we scored 3 goals, the bad news our defence is ****ing awful!

I know its early days and we have players to return, but honestly, as with Stoke the naivete of the team and I have to say management was mind boggling!

Not withstanding what Eustace achieved last season in keeping us up, if Warne had spent the money and brought in these players, and had a team play so poorly over the past 3 games, there would be howls of derision on here!

Yes its early in the season and yes there are players to come in (hopefully) but any coach should surely be able to use the players available to fashion a decent result? I was not convinced that we would "storm" the league as many fans have been saying, I don't even see us troubling the play offs, but whilst there is little evidence so far, I do still think we will be comfortably mid table come the end of November.

It was poor, the manner of course conceding worried me, we looked lethargic closing them down. Need the other players back ASAP

Can’t argue with any of that. Today was shambolic at times at the back and not much better elsewhere.
Not sure, on the evidence of our first three games, that JWZ inspires greater confidence than Vickers while Nyambe and Elder were woeful defensively.
Coventry had a combination of strength and mobility that we just couldn’t live with at times and deserved the points imo.
Is playing Adams in a more forward role working? In a way yes, because today he was probably our most creative and committed asset, but we really do miss that same commitment, example, leadership and presence as a defensive midfielder.
Beyond that what are we missing from last season? Langas, definitely for the short term, and Armstrong, but by my reckoning we were still five or six players away from our strongest XI and it is still mid August. Nil disperandum

We are missing Langas Phillips Wilson and Forsyth, ie a competent defence. Sanderson is shaping up to be this year’s Bradley, Batth not much better. The only bright spot was Morris who made the best of the hit and hope tactics

Yes we scored 3 but I'm surprised they only got 5!
Absolutely no pattern or organisation and nil skill! If Eustace doesn't sort it soon we could be left behind like the beached whale we're very much akin to.
At this time I'm looking round to see if there's 3 teams out there worse than us, I doubt it!

Of course we are missing Phillips but he’s gone, there’s nothing we can do about it and, tbf, he too took a long time to settle, indeed we didn’t see the best of him until after Christmas last season.
My point was that Langas is a big miss and will be back and there is still a possibility that Armstrong may return…hope so.
I don’t think Wilson strengthens the defence. His strengths, imo, are going forward. Think you’re harsh on Sanderson, no comparison with Bradley imo but yes, they’re taking time to settle which really hasn’t been helped by our two wing back’s defensive frailties.

Your post sounds like the dictionary description of a mess! Pretty accurate in other words!
