  • Next Season Squad - Left Back

So we move on to left back, a 'problem' position for Derby for a number of seasons

My two pen'orth for what its worth:

    Expect: Murkin
    Want: Murkin
    in support: Elder, Forsyth

Not very 'progressive' but bear with me

Murkin appears to have been purchased as first choice left back. I guess he'd be racked off if we went out and bought a new target who pushed him onto the bench

So, if we got rid of Elder, who we don't need to pay for and I'd guess comes fairly cheap wages wise, we'd need to find someone better (and yes fitter) than Elder but not as good as Murkin. Tricky. So why not keep Elder?

Forsyth I'd keep for one last year as utility defensive cover, and left back is one such position. I don't subscribe to the theory that his legs have gone (any more than ever) or that his general form has dipped (below what we've known for years). So why not keep Forsyth on the same 'cost to replace' basis as Elder?

    Anyone?

Murkin will be first choice, personally id let Elder go as Fozzy is very good as backup and plays very well as central defender too.

Much as I admire him, Fozzy's days are over IMO, he hasn't featured much this season and realistically isn't going to manage many games if Murkin is injured (sory given our record it should be when). Elder is a much better back up, Fozzy I would hope will be starting his coaching badges and may get a role at the club.

Murkin is first choice. I think Elder will go. Fozzy has a year left on his contract and will be used as cover for LB and CD. 2nd choice LB will either be someone moving up from the U21s, if there's a good enough LB there, or a #2 from another club.

          Can’t fault that logic. Next!
