So it looks like travelling to the EU could be a bit of a pain come October, when the full EU requirements including finger prints and facial recognition are in force. Ooops another Brexit bonus

Yep, I mean it won't be horrendous once it gets going and the cost isn't huge BUT it's not an improvement, it's worse even if not life changing, add in all those on mobile phone contracts that no longer include EU roaming it makes going on holiday in the EU worse not better, like the older couple I know who used to go abroad for months in their motorhome, now restricted to a few weeks.

My brexit voting sister and BIL where moaning yesterday about the cost of taking their dog on their upcoming trip to Europe. Nearly 300 on top of the vaccination cost.

Are you seriously suggesting that the increased complexities of entering Europe from the UK ‘have nothing to do with Brexit’?
That’s rubbish and we can only look forward to things worsening as fingerprints and biometric tests are introduced from November of next year when a £6 3 year permit/‘visa’ is also likely to be necessary.

Hopefully the new Government might be able to resolve some of the issues but at the moment European travel is likely to be ever more costly and less convenient…and that IS down to Brexit.

No I'm not suggesting that, I'm pointing out that the £10.5m HMG are podding out is, if the more clued-up parts of the press are to believed, due to changes in the Schengen agreement. I've double checked this with a friend who works in Geneva and lives in France and the extra checks for UK peeps will be in Geneva Airport.

By the way, the general vox pop the other day on BBC News was that the visa costs less that an airport coffee so what's the big deal? It was actually a bit amusing that the TV news had two stabs at finding someone who was actually bothered and didn't find anyone

which is my point. Swale says its Brexit related, I counter that its Schengen related. Personally I'm glad we aren't, a little bit of inconvenience in travelling across borders actually reminds me of the privilege I have in being prosperous enough to do so and that I need to respect the destinations ways and habits (most obviously driving on the right!)

Mallorca mainly, not Spain, GP…where there is a similar reaction against ‘over tourism’ in exactly the same way as there currently is in Derbyshire, because of the impact of wealthy second home buyers on the ability of local people to buy and live in the areas they were brought up in.
‘Spain’ seems unlikely to protest against ordinary tourism on the basis that it is so heavily reliant upon it.

You can wriggle as much as you like AF, the increased (admittedly minor) cost of travel and the huge increases in inconvenience ARE down to Brexit whether directly or indirectly. You, like me, are probably not going to be greatly impacted by the extra cost, but set aside your ‘I’m alright Jack’ attitude for a moment and spare a thought for the family of four or five…last thing they need.
