  • Frankly I'm just astonished that this thread has got such a response when the majority are so disinterested in politics.[/QUOTE]

That's only because I've stood back and not asked the questions. Nearly all tend to avoid the question they feel uncomfortable with such as the limits to growth on a finite planet both population and economic and climate change. Both left and right and Pro Europe & Anti totally ignore the problem and say it's always the other person who's got his nose in the trough. Just as in War it is always others who are the aggressors. In total human history represented by a 24 hour day, the Industrial Revolution started at Five Minutes to Midnight. Extinction perhaps or just a partial collapse maybe just like other species we share this planet with do from time time .

Ah well thats a very good question! Why not start another OT thread and see how that discussion goes? Personally I think we are all doomed at some stage its just a question of when!

          • You're right there Mr Mainwaring. We're all doomed. Acually I can picture you as being rather like the Arthur Lowe character Swale...a bit indignant, a bit puffed up and a bit full of self importance (you know I dont mean it really)

I don't think we all doomed and it is possible that the human race may have a great future. This was forecast in Olaf Stapledon's book First and Last Men a book that greatly influenced Arthur C Clarke. Just as other species we share our world with have periodic collapses so eventually will the human race, but each time it will be that little bit wiser. In the book we experience 18 over the course of several million years until the Sun goes nova and a final extinction occurs.

Is that it then...can we let the dust settle now and get back to football?
