May 25th we saw Springs**** at the Johan Cruijff Arena
Sept 21st Pretenders at Tivoli Vredenburg, Utrecht
Oct 22nd the Analogues (Beatles tribute band and very good they are too) at Koninklijk Theater Carre, Amsterdam

    2024
Feb 20th Paul Young (his 80s stuff not the TexMex sound of Los Pacaminos) at Tivoli Vredenburg, Utrecht
Jube 20th Gladys Knight at Koninklijk Theater Carre, Amsterdam

I'm slowly starting selling my vinyl. I can get far more for it than the family could after my demise. First to go was The Motown 7s, rare and unreleased, limited edition box set. Still sealed. Bought for 120, sold for 350. Good going. Once it's all gone I'm going for a 1954 MG TD with the proceeds.

I don’t plan that far ahead in fact I often leave it til the day of the gig to decide, but I will definitely be mozying over to Notts to see the Voice Of Rock, Glenn Hughes, do his Deep Purple show on Sunday

Gladys presale ended yesterday and all the presale tickets were sold. Rest of the tickets go on sale in half an hour and will be gone in a flash. Capacity is 1756.

If you got tickets don't read on

If you didn't get tickets take comfort that her mid-90s Nottingham gig is in my top 10 bad gigs of all time. Each three minute song followed by a five-plus minute ramble, Midnight Train To Georgia squeezed into a medley, some songs not even sung by her. A very very disappointing night given how much I love her recorded work. Ah well it was a long time ago

                • She played the same venue on June 1st this year. I missed out on tickets. Half a dozen friends did attend and lauded the performance. I'm hoping for a repeat of that rather than a repeat of your disappointing experience. We shall see.

                    • Beatles’ latest single - ‘Now and Then’ - released later today. Never expected to say that again. 53 years between single recordings...in personal terms from ‘O’ levels to approaching 70. Must be some sort of (pun unavoidable) record.

3 o'clock CET it's being launched so 2PM your end. I shall tune in to a radio station and have a listen. A small "teaser" has been aired already and, most unfortunately, it didn't rock my boat. Hopefully the full version is somewhat better.

Liam Gallagher has called it ‘biblical, celestial, heartbreaking and heartwarming’. As usual the truth is somewhere between his hyperbole and your honesty.
Personally, I like it...a lot, but I have to admit it’s difficult to separate objectivity and sentiment seeing as the Beatles were a huge part of my musical upbringing...and I agree that it’s ‘heartwarming’.
Aren’t the Stones at the top of the album charts at the moment? Maybe we’ve all teleported back to the sixties somehow and Derby are only a handful of years from winning the league again.

                          • Hauntingly melodious. It wouldn't have sounded amiss on the Magical Mystery Tour Album, IMO. The teaser didn't do the song any justice whatsoever. I like it.

Not that it's a copy of the song but some of the string parts had me thinking immediately of I am the Walrus as this new one is, whilst being a slower tempo, of a similar style.

Certainly better than the taster, like it!
