Small world example. Some years ago I was governor of local primary school. The chairman, a local vicar - isn't it always - was ineffectual and had been in office many years with a lackey as deputy. There was considerable pressure on him to step down, which he finally did. He nominated his deputy as new Chairman and himself as new deputy!! He seriously though it would heal the rift in the governing body by this. He was seriously deluded.

Let’s not forget last time round. Elected in 2016 only to be dumped four years later. What makes you think it’ll be any different this time?
He’ll be in his 80’s assuming he’s still around, and the Democrats surely won’t be as inept, or the electorate so gullible, next time.Last edited by ramAnag; 18-02-2025, 05:23 PM.

But he's convinced he won then, so will no doubt be confident he would again.Originally posted by ramAnag View PostLet’s not forget last time round. Elected in 2016 only to be dumped four years later. What makes you think it’ll be any different this time?

Nor was he 'dumped', he lost narrowly. And this time round (so far) he's focussing on delivery not a staff merry go round. If he resolves Ukraine in any way at all IMO his approval rating will shoot up (amongst Americans, certainly not me if he he resolves it in Russia's favour)Originally posted by SithHappens View PostBut he's convinced he won then, so will no doubt be confident he would again.

Well, in so much as Biden received more votes than any other US Presidential candidate ever, Trump did get dumped. He just didn’t handle it terribly well.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostNor was he 'dumped', he lost narrowly. Interestingly, despite most of them probably being unable to find it on a map, the majority of US citizens (including Republicans), are allegedly very sympathetic to Ukraine and equally critical of Russia.
P.S. If you really want to you could just rename it ‘Politicians careless with the truth. Who’da thought?’Last edited by ramAnag; 18-02-2025, 06:38 PM.

Bloody well hope so, Sith. I'll be a mere 71 summers young come Monday and intend being around long enough to see the Rams in an FA Cup Final and/or in a competitive match in the Johan Cruijff Arena.Originally posted by SithHappens View PostWill any of us?
AF, how's about... Careless Tories of whatever hue.
My opinion is that the USA is speeding headlong towards being an oligarchy and that there's a good chance there won't be Presidential elections in 2028. Trump told Christians in the run up to last year's election that, if they voted for him then, they wouldn't have to in 2028. One assumes that he was hinting at there not being elections in the future.

To knit two recent aspects of this thread together you may wish to include Trump amongst your examples of ‘carelessness’, Andy.Originally posted by Andy_Faber View PostSeems Jonathan Reynolds has been telling Porky Pies on his CV too. So I have a serious question: Should I rename the Careless Tories thread as 'Careless Members of the current administration'?
In an attempt to make a positive point about his ancestral longevity he appears to have been a little careless about both the age and state of health/mental acuity of his parents.

Always has been, always will be and they as a group never learn from their peers being outed. Sadly I feel the outings are but the tip of the iceberg and 90% or more of their collective lies go undetected.Originally posted by MadAmster View PostWhat do the people mentioned in this thread have in common?
They're all politicians.
They lie.
It's part of the job description, it would seem.

Probably very true, although - despite all the inherent dangers - I suspect the internet will have a role to play in terms of both future accusations and accountability.Originally posted by Geoff Parkstone View PostAlways has been, always will be and they as a group never learn from their peers being outed. Regrettably I don?t think his actions are careless using the usual definition, but they are being done without caring about what ?people? think which I guess is another form of carelessness. What he?s doing is certainly quite deliberateOriginally posted by ramAnag View PostTo knit two recent aspects of this thread together you may wish to include Trump amongst your examples of ?carelessness?, Andy.
.
IMO if he continues down the line of appeasing Russia, China will occupy Taiwan knowing it?s ?just A transaction?, the ostracising of Russia will disintegrate and the new world order will see UK and EU in the political equivalent of League 1
