Specifically, they are opened for the subjects forecast to have the shortage going forward. There has been a focus on German teaching courses over the past year as, although there's no shortage in secondary education today, within the next 5 years, very many German teachers will be retiring. Germany is NL's biggest trading partner...

Despite this forward thinking approach which sees students aiming at a particular job stream, it is estimated that, for around 25% of students graduating, the job they thought they wanted to do after graduating, has been made redundant by technological advances.

He'd like to know if it's the same in the UK.
Not that I'm aware of, but it seems a sound approach

              • So those involved in crypto and fossil fuel are the biggest donors to reform and these people are of course very much looking to improve the lives of the "ordinary UK voter"?

Despite the constant negative press from national tabloids and some local papers, polls show that most voters support net zero, with 63% strongly or somewhat supporting it. With 60% of Reform UK voters not supporting net zero, Reform UK are the outliers.

Finally, it is perhaps significant to note that between 2019 and 2024 92% of donations to Reform UK came from donors linked to fossil fuels. It is reasonable to conclude that, given this connection, Reform UK is not as interested in helping people as they claim to be, and that the party would rather focus on benefitting its billionaire donors.

                • Good to see Jimmy Kimmel is unbowed by the insane orange **** that's currently the US president.

Early on Thursday morning, Donald Trump made another plea for ABC to fire the late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, writing on his Truth Social platform that he has “NO TALENT” and “VERY POOR TELEVISION RATINGS”.

On his show later that night, Kimmel was defiant, poking at the president for his previous attempt this fall to get him fired and suggesting that Trump had clearly been watching his show.

“You’ve done this before. You tried to get me fired in September. It didn’t work,” Kimmel said. “Mr President, I admire your tenacity.”

Of course some on here still think that there is some good in what Trump does, though have never explained the cocnept of "good bullying" they referred to!

Just surprised that someone who I assumed, (careless of me I know) had some degree of intellectual capability, repeatedly includes in their posts inaccuracies, false propositions and tropes repeatedly published by certain media. Which suggests you believe this bollux, otherwise why repeat it?

                      • Those with reasonable memories may recall when AF in a post referred to Trump undertaking some "good" bullying, regarding making government more efficient. Despite being questioned, he failed to explain what he meant by "good bullying" but there we are.

However, these recent actions by Trump regarding the firing of government employees, expose the lie that Trump's actions are in anyway about improving government efficiency or removing bad performers, mind you one look at the crooks, chancers and geeks in his government would tell a sentient person that!

Here are some of the reasons Trump is firing civil servants - it is not about performance:

Being a relative of a disfavored former employee: Maureen Comey, a respected DOJ prosecutor, was fired shortly before Trump demanded her father be prosecuted.

Refusing to illegally fire people: Kash Patel is being sued for firing senior FBI agents who asked him for adequate reason to fire their fellow agents.

Investigating corruption and abuses of power: For example, ethics officers at Fannie Mae were fired after they raised questions about how Bill Pulte obtained documents as part of his effort to prosecute Trump’s political enemies.

Investigating an insurrection or allegations of corruption by the President.

Providing an intelligence analysis that contradicts the President’s claims.

                        Being a trans person.

An online monitor of the “deep state” accuses you of being disloyal to Trumpism. Such accusations are often erroneous: a prosecutor falsely accused of not willing to be part of the Comey investigation was fired. An FBI agent was fired after being falsely accused of participating in Mar-A-Lago investigations.

Sharing accurate information to a judge: A DOJ lawyer was fired when he acknowledged that the administration had erred when it deported an immigrant.

Not recommending that a prominent celebrity supporter of the President have his gun rights restored.

Signing a public statement that existing policies are undermining the ability of agencies to complete their tasks.

No reason at all. The President merely asserts that he has an Article II power to fire you and decides he wants someone assumed to be more loyal in your place.

Agreed, MARP. The question is, how much damage can he do before then?

His recent utterances about Europe and pronouncements on Ukraine are more dangerous and decisive than even those of us who have always opposed him might have imagined.
