Off to Cadiz tomorrow. As the current election situation resembles ever more the political equivalent of Forest Green Rovers v Millwall I?m hoping The Green Devils claim victory and put the nasties (other spellings come to mind) to the sword while I?m away, bit like St. George and the dragon.
He never actually set foot in England btw, I believe he was Turkish and is also the patron saint of Ethiopia?best not mention that bit to Nigel or Tommy .
Rear-gunning again rA, what a surprise

What?s your point (made a million times before, keep up!) about St George? Santa came from Turkey too, I don?t see the relevance other than an excuse for another little in-chortle

The old ones are the best ones, AF and you just couldn’t resist resurrecting and recycling your own - made soooo many times before little old ‘in joke’, yet again! - could you?

The relevance? I just find it amusing that all those racists who seem so happy to adopt, erect and hide behind the cross of St.George seem oblivious to the fact that he was quite probably black and of Palestinian parentage. ‘In-chortle’? Well if I didn’t laugh I’d cry at what is currently happening in and to our country.

P.S. I think someone should have had a word with you about Santa. Seems a little overdue.

      • Will be interesting to see Green v Reform outcome at local level. Having voted green at last few locals I find myself unable to support the latest incarnation of the Green party. It seems to have lost its sense of original purpose in the scramble to sweep up left wing voters seemingly abandoned by labour. Curiously similar to Reform sweeping up right wing voters abandoned by Tories.

So I referred to Deepseek which I find more reliable than ChatGPT as it is better at weeding out bias and urban myths. And it says

‘ There is no historical evidence that Saint George was Black or of Palestinian descent in the modern sense. He was likely born in Cappadocia (in modern-day Turkey) around the 3rd century to Christian Greek parents. While he served as a soldier in the Roman army in the region of Syria Palaestina—and may have died there—that does not make him Palestinian by ethnicity, as the modern Palestinian national identity did not exist then. Iconography traditionally depicts him as a Roman soldier of Anatolian or Greek background. The claim of Black or Palestinian heritage is not supported by early sources.’

          Stop being so desperate

          • I dunno, suggesting he was born in Cappadocia? Is that a load of hot air?

Me…desperate! Really? I actually couldn’t care less what ethnicity St.George was. It’s you who’s got your pants in a knot, first off over me having the audacity to laugh at Swale taking the p*ss out of you and secondly over me daring to suggest that our patron saint may have been a little ‘dusky’.
I’ll also let you into a secret, and I don’t think you’ll need DeepSeek or Chatwhatever to check it out…but, sorry to disappoint…there were no dragons and Santa isn’t real either.

Lol! Sorry Sith, I forgot how young you are. i shouldn’t have said that. Just ignore it…anyway Uncle Andy has checked on DeepChat or something and he was born in Turkey - Santa not AF (perish the thought) - and used to play for Galatasaray.

                            Interesting…and slightly scary, GP.
I get why, with your perspective, you’re disassociating yourself from the Greens although, imo, Reform UK are much the more extreme and sinister.

Think what is unusual now is the fact that both Labour and the Tories are united in their unpopularity. They usually take it in turns. Obviously creates opportunity elsewhere but I hope people remember that most of these elections are about electing those who are capable of managing local resources. I hope they do…but I doubt it.

                            • I'm out of affection for the current political scene, everywhere. I have come to the conclusion (again) that we educate people sufficiently to keep industry going. That keeps the owners of said industry in their lofty position of wealth and the power that goes with that wealth. It is designed to, at worst keep the rich rich and, hopefully, even richer and the rest in their place.

The vast majority of people are, as far as the rich and powerful are concerned, merely there to keep the rich in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed. Basically, people are slaves to the system.

                              Sad.

No you wouldn't be sure, which probably says more about your own ability to understand concepts than whether I'm sentient. Sigh!

As for election lefalets, I've kept the one by a local guy who describes who is, what he has done as a councillor in the past and what he hopes to do in the future should he be relected. Sadly I suspect he won't be.

Those that spout political slogans or bullet points with promises that won't and can't be fulfilled by a local authority go straight in the recyling.
