Excellent isn’t it, and very moving?
Not seen anything with Stephen Graham in that isn’t good, tbh.
If you haven’t watched ‘This is England’, both the original and the subsequent mini series give it a go.

I haven't seen it but will have a look.

And yes it was very moving. That 1st episode i couldn't believe how quick time went watching it. Love the one shot filming style.

It was breakthrough time for Stephen Graham, Vicky McClure and Derby’s own Michael Socha. Directed by Shane Meadows. Great stuff imo, maybe a touch dated now, but still relevant, make sure you watch them in order.

I think it works, because they shot it historically anyway, which add a lighter note of nostalgia throughout the series. Agreed Steve Graham is incredible at acting

The original This Is England is epic stuff, can we claim Shane Meadows as a local hero, I think we can. Not as good as his all-time classic Dead Man?s Shoes though, and IMO Toby Kebble deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of Anthony in that.

Yes, correct on all counts. I am sure (but it may have been an urban myth) that an enterprising Matlockite was selling guided tours of DMS shooting locations at one time.

Not followed the other two but agree re PC - watch the 'Director's Commentary' for DMS and Paddy and Shane just come over as two normal blokes (who happen to be top notch at what they do)

As a matter of interest, does anyone else here bother to watch Directors Commentaries? - I find them interesting, and the best of them fascinating

'Directors Commentaries/'Audio Commentaries'' are (or were) an extra feature attached to luxury versions of film packages especially during the DVD/Bluray era, still available in many cases now but less so with the move to streaming/downloading. In the case of DVD's, an extra disc was supplied which contained the whole of the film, but with the soundtrack reduced in volume and (usually) the director, (often) the producer and (occasionally) a significant actor or 2 from the film talking the viewer through relevant (usually) background to the film itself. My favourites are a very cocksure Guy Ritchie and his producer Matthew Vaughan over Snatch, Actors Paul McGann and Ralph Brown over Withnail and I, and (taking us back to an earlier discussion on here) Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine over Dead Man's Shoes. There's also audio commentaries for my all-time favourite TV series The Thick Of It. An absolute treasure trove for background info hoovers like myself, but I can understand people not seeing the point

Really fun movie, good way to spend a couple of hours
