Travis and Johnston signed today as I said.

We must've had investment from somewhere, we've practically bought a new squad.
Nope, it explained somewhere on tinternet, can't remember where, that with Cashin money, the £8 million championship TV deal, plus about £4 million from sell on clauses/ academy sales the funds are there, plus not all transfer fees are paid up front in one go, can be spread over 1 or 2 years.

All spending is in line with the plan that Clowes had agreed and which Eustace was told prior to joining the club, provided Derby remained in the championship.

One would think so, but Brewster can play ide plus Ward, Elder, Wilson are more wide midfielders/wing back.

Up to 4 players going out this week I've heard.

          • Daj to Port Vale on loan for the season, yesterday... or was it the day before. Maybe a winger or two in and more players will leave, sold, loaned or terminated. If not there could be as many as half a dozen not in the 25 man squad and having to settle for B team minutes.

Going on the premise that JE will prefer his own signings... Johnston will be 1st choice RB, Beck will be 1st choice LB, Ozoh and Travis will be the 2 in front of the back 4, I think, once Langas is fit, he and Clarke will be the 1st choice CH's although, after a slow start, Sanderson is improving. Who will be the 10, IMO, not Ebou as he doesn't have the passing range, ball control, vision for the role. Probably Clark or Brewster in there leaving the other candidates (Weimann and Kenzo) alongside Ebou on the bench. Who will be the front 4 (incl the 10) from Agyemang, Salvesen, Morris, Clark, Brewster, Jackson, CBT when fit? Where does all this leave the likes of Foz, Elder, Wilson, Ward etc? We can have 9 on the bench and that will probably still mean 5 players not even making the bench.

I'm glad it's JE with that particular headache and not me.

It is, but for me it would be strange to see Ebou on the bench. His arrival was the missing piece of the jigsaw in our promotion season. Eustace then made him captain a year later and I think he was player of the year last season.
IMO he’s the best defensive midfielder at the club and the defence has been weakened by him being played further forward. He isn’t the best passer and picks up too many daft cards - probably be suspended by late October - but he’d be my first name on the team sheet each week.

Who signed Ozoh this summer? Who signed Travis?

                  Who signed Ebou?

IMO, JE hasn't signed them two to sit on the bench, they'll be the 2 DMs in his preferred system. Ebou, as much as we love the guy, isn't and never will be a 10. We have 4 players more suited to that role in Clark, Brewster, Weimann and Goudmijn. I foresee the latter 2 joining Ebou on the bench. Once they're all fit, we have great competition for places all over the park.

                  JWZ/Josh between the sticks
                  Johnston/Nyambe RB
Langas/Clarke/Sanderson/Batth/Nelson at CH with Roons and Foz in the background, both of whom can also play other roles
                  Beck/Elder/Foz LB
Ozoh/Travis/Ebou/Tommo for DM with Goudmijn as cover
                  The front 4? Agyemang/Morris/Salvesen/Clark/Brewster/CBT/Jackson/Goudmijn

Not looked at wing backs as you don't have them in JE's preferred formation. Where does that leave the likes of Ward and Wilson? Especially if we get 1 or 2 wingers in, in what remains of the transfer window. Will Osborn get a look in? I don't think so. O'Donnell, as with most 3rd keepers, won't be named in the 25, will play some B team games and, if JWZ/Josh get injured we'll invoke the emergency keeper rule.

JE has created the perfect headache for himself. His first headache comes in the next few days when he has to submit the 25 man squad names to the EFL. Who will be left out? Will those left out be the mainstay of the B team or will they be loaned out?

                  Comment

                  • Can't disagree with most of that, Eustace has upgraded the mid field and Ebou is I think going to play less as a result, though given our past record with injuries I'm inclined to think he may play more than might be anticipated.

Nelson may not make the squad this side of the Jan transfer window, no much point in registering a player who is not going to be match fit until Dec if reports are right.

To be strictly accurate, JE re-signed Ozoh and made Adams his captain last February, but I agree with you about Travis and can see him having being signed as a potential leader given his experience.

Either way, Ozoh - because of his fragility - and Adams - because of the likelihood of suspension - will probably interchange but their availability is a good problem to have.

Agree with the rest of your appraisal. Will Osborn get a look in? Good question. On form, I doubt it, but his wages will make him difficult to move on. Didn’t anticipate it but he has to belong in the poor and disappointing signings column.

Still time for us to possibly cash in on JWZ. Either way we will surely have to see some outgoings over the next few days.

From July 1st, Ozoh was a Palace player again, signed or re-signed is semantics. JE offered him a new loan as he saw something in him. Provided he stays fit, he'll be a starter as will Travis.

JWZ? Unless we have JWZ/Vickers level keeper all but signed, Jacob will be staying, IMO.

Agreed but his injury/availability record doesn’t help. Ben Osborn linked with Plymouth apparently.

74 appearances in 2 seasons isn't bad though
