  • Strange managerial appointments

I see The Blades have sacked Chris Wilder, who got them promoted and within 10 mins of being promoted again with Ruben Selles ex of Hull, who only just avoided relegation! Looks like a rather odd gamble to replace a reasonably successful manager with one whose championship track record is unproven.

He doesn't have a good record doesn't he.

That said Wilder is a total knob, can imagine him rubbing people up the wrong way behind doors..

Not sure why you’d say that. I know nothing about him, other than that he’s the oldest looking 57 year old I’ve seen, but he seems to have done okay and been a bit unlucky.

Seems a strange appointment and, if anything, one less club to worry about in terms of competition next season. I’d be more concerned about a Wilder managed Sheff. Utd. Be surprised if Leicester and Ipswich aren’t next season’s pace setters. Not sure about the Blades after this.

He's done ok there and I think selles is a strange approach, but wilder just comes across as one, called out as few times especially if things don't go his way, see Plymouth game in April.

Take your word for it. Don’t remember the incident. There don’t seem to be many managers who stir up animosity these days.
Suppose another former Blade - Warnock - was the last one, but that was mainly because, despite looking like a pantomime dame, he deliberately played up to the role of pantomime villain.

It's why he got his name Colin ha...i like warnock but he can be annoying.

Strachan had his moments but was quite amusing with it.

It seems The Blades new owners are going down the "data led" player recruitment routes, as Brentford and Brighton have done successfully and have started to recruit unknown South American youngsters.

It might be premature to write them off, but who knows there are always surprises, nobody would have thought Ipswich would get promoted or that Luton would sink without trace last season. Hopefully Eustace's rams will be the surprise package this season!

Though promotion to the Prem would be a double edged sword for me, I guess if handled sensibly like Ipswich seem to have done, i.e. bank the money and not overspend on players then perhaps it would be a plus.

Agreed re. Ipswich, 2 or 3 promos/relegation bank the spoils and build up a war chest then go for it. Plenty in it for the fans and big gates!
