I can't comment on other clubs forums but I do sort of think it needs very little moderation in here, mostly posts don't cross a line even if discussion may get heated at times.

I've no idea if Andy deletes posts, or if he does when he last needed to.

I have generally found him OK, with one notable exception.

I guess if there was more posters here then the moderators job would become more time consuming.

That said there are posts on here that wouldn't last 5 minutes over on the bigger forum.

More than one mod for 8 posters...
A 1 to 3 ratio of mods to punters??? Be serious.

Fair point. On the other hand an additional or alternative mod might bring new ideas/enthusiasm to the role and make the site more user friendly which might lead to more posters.
Fact is, over the last five or six years we have lost plenty and acquired Sith. I know he is good, but we could do with more, including apostrophes!

I really don't think AF does a bad job as Moderator RA. Its a thankless task at the best of times and I can't see how a new MOD would attract more participants.

The simple fact is these Forums are dying, things change the way people interact changes and most it seems go on DCFC Fans to vent their spleen these days. Its us caught in a rut, the unspeakable debating the unthinkable!

Part of the problem lies in 'the lines' not being defined by Footy Mad. I tried a while ago to define some important ones but it just resulted in one of our regular spats. Note that a while ago I nominated Madamster as MY moderator, and he's called me out singly or as part of a collective, either directly or by inference, a few times, and I always reflect on them

I've no idea if Andy deletes posts, or if he does when he last needed to.

I've deleted maybe ten during my period as mod, apart from those emanating from a poster DCFCARMY who just got way too wound up about stuff and posted some quite defamatory things which, like the poster himself eventually, had to go.

I have generally found him OK, with one notable exception.

Not sure what that exception was, but I'm surprised there aren't more tbh!

I guess if there was more posters here then the moderators job would become more time consuming.

I'm (joint with two others) moderator of a couple of fb pages with thousands of members and the moderating is even easy on them, but they have four rules that make them so - no politics, no religion, no personal insults, no selling. Isolated posts just get deleted, repeat offenders get deleted from the pages (mostly Americans, they just don't seem to be able to resist it)

That said there are posts on here that wouldn't last 5 minutes over on the bigger forum.

I'm conscious that there are so few of us here there I don't want to over-police and lose anyone. The flip side of that is that we've 'lost' a few folk who've been 'lurkers', and have a couple of others who've posted very infrequently, who were put off by the acrimony
            Hope this explains a bit

Fair enough. I just remember better times and less moderator related acrimony when Bloomer and Ramondo were in post. Seems to have been harder with one in charge - be that Rats or Andy - and an additional pair of eyes might help.

When Andy took over I remember him saying he wanted to recruit new members and that certainly has not happened.

Whether that is because such forums are, as you suggest, dying, because of the difficulties using it (which no one seems interested in fixing) or for some other reason I don’t know, but it needs sorting imo.

Its an open Forum those interested can join and participate. Footy Mad is clinging on by its finger tips, the paucity of posters is matched elsewhere as one by one club forms come to an end. I can't see that changing.

Given any "acrimony" is generally confined to threads marked OT and not football threads, I remain sceptical that it has put that many off, lurkers and infrequent posters are not serious about participating.

Its odd but football posts can often just die a death, often a post about a football topic receives very few responses.

Anyway as we have all signed up to be very polite and welcoming and avoid any acrimony going forward, I'm sure we can look forward to swarms of happy rams fans joining soon.

This is a football forum in name only, in truth it's a general chit chat forum but with more than a touch of edginess. To me that's OK provided it remains within responsible limits, indeed it's probably why the Ram Inn is still functioning.
I don't see newbies flocking to join even though Sith has shown that we do have something to offer as he continues to put up with us!
IMO self moderation should avoid the need for any Big Brother involvement.

Agreed, the fact that the OT threads on here generate the most responses shows there is an appetite for this discussion. I agree some responses including mine have been over the top, so whilst I will robustly argue a point I will endeavour to keep it polite.

There is a range of topics, but mostly we are here because of Derby County, with one exception. Can't remember the guy who supported Barnsleys name but it's a shame they disappeared after that one incident.

That isn?t a dig at Andy btw, although I am critical of him in other ways. I have no idea how much if any financial reward is involved in either running footy mad or being a moderator but it is unclear how he got the role, why he wants to hang on to it and why, after all this time, we still only have one mod.

Imo the moderator bar was set by Ramondo and Bloomer and is now a poor imitation. The forum invariably worked, attracted more posters and people were suitably dealt with for breaking the rules.

Two mods would be both helpful for all and an improvement, again imo. MA has expressed a strong interest and who knows, he might actually have the determination to proverbially bang a few heads together at what passes for head office and get them to do their job for once.
It wasn't all that wonderful. You had Ratty and Chris as well. Both moody, and damned right belligerent when it suited. Ramondo was a real gent would use private messaging to defuse loads

Ratty was a pain in the arse but Chris really pissed me off more than any mod I've ever known on any forum

Chris must have been before my time and I have never disagreed with you about Rats, but Bloomer and Ramondo showed how it should be done imo.

                              This morning's error code.
I'm still getting this error, doesn't matter how I navigate, cannot access the site on my phone.
