      Devastating 😞
I never used a 2 iron when I was playing golf. I found it a lot easier to use a 5 wood as it had a greater loft and it was much more controllable than a 2 iron.

Seve probably the only relatable golfer in history.
Ryder cup is a good laugh and watch tho.
Golf is a posh man?s game in England but it is an artisan golfer?s game in Scotland.

Golf is one of the few sports where people of differing abilities can play together thanks to the golf handicap system.
A couple of weeks ago I heard that the golf handicap system in Scotland has gone all to pot with the maximum handicap for men now being 54 which is the same as women golfers.
I also heard that at Downfield Golf Club it can be a maximum of 60 due to the slope rating.

            Artisan????

Do you have any idea what that word actually means? Clearly not.

When I played golf in four ball match play knock out competition the lowest handicap golfer played off scratch (0) and the other three golfers worked out at which hole they would get their strokes. I do not know if this is still the case as I stopped playing golf in February 2011 which is over 15 years ago.

Which hole did you get a stroke at?

It depends on the stroke index.
It used to be that the longest hole was stroke 1 and the shortest hole was stroke 18.
However that was changed to get a better balance of strokes in first nine and second nine holes in a golf course.
At Downfield Golf Club there were two holes with a par 5 in the first nine holes and three holes with a par 5 in the second nine holes playing off the back tees with the 13th and 14th holes both being par 5?s.
This made it difficult if you were a low handicap golfer handing out strokes in a match play competition on two consecutive holes.
When I was a member of Downfield Golf Club I was a relatively low handicap golfer and I continually handed out strokes in match play golf competitions.

                            Brutal 😆

But Islay said he wasn't banned.......seems to be two different versions.

Noahrab is making things up again.
I had coffee in Downfield Golf Club on 17th March 2026 with a friend I used to play golf at Downfield GC with until we ‘emigrated’ to live on Islay in August 2005.

As I was handing out the strokes fortunately I never had to hand out strokes as far as stroke 18.
As far as I can see with the new handicap system for male golfers going as high as 60, this encourages golf club members to get their handicap as high as possible to win the handicap golf competitions both in their own golf club and in open competitions.
My father used to say that the maximum handicap for golfers should be 18 with all golfers trying to aspire to have a handicap of 18 otherwise it encourages bandit hunters ( a golfing term).
I would be interested to know what Returnofrros thinks about my post.
