can we really blame JG for that ending to the game. I think our team captain on the day should be making decisions on the pitch to close up games.

He's no Ryan Edwards (then again)Originally posted by ROMA84 View Postcan we really blame JG for that ending to the game. I think our team captain on the day should be making decisions on the pitch to close up games.
Rabbits...headlights... I'm including all of them.
Maybe we binned a few winners a wee bit too early. Hindsight is a great thing I know.

Which winners did we bin? Docherty was never on the pitch,Gallagher can't get a game for struggling Ross County and Holt pretty much forced his exit. Moult ( as much as I liked the guy) hasn't really done much since, Dalby was out of our control as were Walton and Manny. Not sure who I've missed out.Originally posted by Yeats 62 View PostHe's no Ryan Edwards (then again)

FFS... I did say "maybe" !!! Docherty not being on the pitch (and he was) hated losing, and was very vocal. Gallacher "not getting a game" this season has fcuk all to do with the last season he had for us. (and he was very vocal, won plenty in the air AND hated losing) Moult had his ups and downs, but had a winning mentality. And Holt's (agent) pretty much caused that bather. (he did attack the ba' and win plenty in the air tho, not the agent obviously)Originally posted by Arabdownsouth View PostWhich winners did we bin? And , that's just the anes you've mentioned.
The point I was trying to make, before you dived in was, just that we seemingly upgraded our players in nearly all positions, yet.... none of them seem to have that desire to win compared to the players they replaced.

United Hibs'd it last night. A good performance from United but ultimately we pick up zero points again. I cannot fathom why we start every game 343. Is this in the revised Largs coaching manual?
I used to hate 4231 because I felt the loan striker wasn't getting enough support. However, Kevin Keegan style, I'd love 4231 at present. See when we had Goodwillie and Daly in a partnership United were good because we took the lead in games, we had a threat. All we have now as a threat is a corner, long throw or a freekick, earlier on in the season, the latter.
Chopping and changing personnel but the formation stays the same at the start for every game. Read the room, change to a flat back four allowing an extra player to put his foot on the ball higher up the park.
For me the starting line-up v Spartans is:
------------------MB--------------------
Stephenson---SCH----Graham---Ferry
Nammo-----Camara---Sibbald----Traps
-------------Sapsford---Watters---------
Iovu can feel hard done by as he has shown signs of improvement and he has stopped this unnecessary of holding players. Also has a bit of pace about him. KK for me hasn't learned from his flat footed attempt at defending, St Mirren away. If his agent and him think he is worth a better contract I'd punt him right now. Esselink is a good passer of the ball, could he maybe be used as one of the two in 4231? First weakness I saw from Bert was in the 3-3 at Easter Road, Bowie was getting the better of him. Goodwin didn't help matters by saying he is the experienced one and he has to marshal Iovu & KK. His game is not to be tight and high on players, nae pace.
Watters has been ruined by United bringing him right back from injury against Killie. See him before his injury and now we've done him no favours imo. Do United believe in match fitness? I don't believe they do. A player back from injury, thrown right back in and the fans get on that players back and it repeats the same cycle with the near enough whole team.

I should have said hardly ever on the pitch,is that better? Gallagher might have hated losing but have you seen how County are doing? Losing plenty as far as I can see. I said I liked Louis Moult and I do,but he too had a lot of injury issues and hardly played last season. The rest were out of our control as I said. My point is not that I prefer the players we have now,it's that the ones that left were for a reason.Last edited by Arabdownsouth; 05-02-2026, 06:38 PM.

It is not the Largs manual that has failed us.Jim Goodwin was won over to the 3 4 3 /3 4 2 1 by Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen.Mind you so was Amorim at Manchester United and look what happened to him.
Leverkusen mastered the formation BUT when under pressure rapidly switched to 5 2 3/ 5 2 2 1 but somebody needs to tell Jim that we are not Leverkusen and even Man U with a squad worth hundreds of millions could not adapt to that formation.

Mind you last night is not down to formations that loss was due to the usual shyte goalkeeping and defending and i do have a degree of sympathy with the manager. If he could have brought himself on for the last 10 minutes we would have won that game.
As much as i hated him as a player he did have loads of fight and bottle something sadly lacking in this United side.

Whilst moaning, and I've complained about this previous, An area we are chronic at is thrown ins, we hardly take them quick and players rarely come short for them, we literally take an age, everyone lines up, the opposition has everyone set in place, and we just throw it down the line for someone to flick on, sometimes we even throw it to the guy furthest forward to flick on to no one. I reckon we most lose possession from about 65% of our own throws.
