  • Our Formation

****ing get it in the bin. Next season id like us back to a back 4. Everything is so much more balanced. This dream Goodwin has of this formation working for him is a total fantasy. Ive just watched Hearts all but win the league playing a back 4, just watched
Motherwell pass teams off the park and defend brilliantly all season. The two best defences in the league on 34 and 36 goals. This is with average players in both line ups. Meanwhile weve conceded 60 and also played easier games than them. Thats just simple stats. Then I can talk about what I've actually watched and to be honest its been horrendous most of the season with the exception of a small handful of games. Wing backs allowing crosses in all season, centre backs a total mess, nobody good enough to play any kind of football, dominated by opposition almost every game. Swapped to a back 4 against Aberdeen and instantly looked more balanced and better. **** knows if ive got another season in me watching us be so terrible with the odd exception.

The end of season stats tell a story

    Position 7th
    Goals scored 8th
    Goals conceded 8th
    Shots per game 5th
    Possession 12th
    Shots faced 11th
    Pass % 12th
    Long balls 4th

The last 4 are pretty damning, pretty embarrassing actually and we drastically need to improve on. We are pretty murder to watch and failed in our goal for a top 6 finish. The stats give a good reason why.

Jim says mistakes at the back cost us but when you are surrendering so much possession, lumping the ball up to the field back to the opposition and allowing them plenty shots on goal you are only increasing the chances of mistakes at the back.

JG will be our manager next season so I just hope he reflects on how he approaches games and tries to play a bit more football. Good recruitment is obviously crucial but how you play the game an set up your team is equally important. And on that count JG has been a big disappointment this season.

Not one surprise in those stats. Some absolutely horrific reading.

West Ham changed to Jim's formation yesterday and were 2-0 down within 20 minutes, they switched back to their normal formation and drew the next 75 minutes 1-1 but the damage was already done.Man U under Amorim were going nowhere with 3 at the back but will finish 3rd this season having ditched him and his 3-4-3 formation going back to a 4 under Carrick.Only one English team has ever won the Premier League playing with 3 at the back.Chelsea under Conte,

There are only 2 people who think that system works, one of them posts here and the other one likes going to watch his big team win the league. How on earth can a professional football manager look at those stats and think his system works and is worth persisting with for the entirety of the season? St Mirren yesterday had total freedom down both flanks, it was truly embarrassing to watch. Jim's comments just expose him as an absolute f*cking loser. Nothing will get better until he is gone

I think too much is made of the system, my point is until you get rid of sh1t defenders and goalkeepers it's not going to make much difference to Richards padding passbacks out to opponents, Kurchenko punching balls into his own net, loads of our goals conceded this season are from set pieces, KK switching off, Bert being slower than Declan Gallagher, Lovu not being much quicker and poor on the ball. The system has worked a lot better since Agyei has come into the team, but what system you play doesn't really matter if you have a chocolate fireguard for a defence. Those mistakes happening regardless what system.

I think you're simplifying a little. Its not only the defence that suffers from this system but the whole balance of the team. We leave gaping holes through the middle with a 2 man midfield, our centre halfs get exposed for pace due to our lack of full backs and our wing backs being too high up the pitch. We have no creativity and all we do is lump long balls up the park to forwards who can't hold the ball up. We are a terrible team to watch and our manager thinks there are a lot of positives to take from this season, I think he's on mushrooms myself. Yes our defenders have been poor, and our goalkeepers haphazard but ffs Jim you could have at least tried different systems out. I dont think he holds himself in any way accountable and next season is just going to be rinse and repeat until we get rid.

Hopefully the signing of Tait means we are going to 3 in the middle this season. You'd think so. Hes not turned down so many other clubs just to sit on Uniteds bench. Suits Camara alot more too.

Having Walton back is good tae. A keeper that will hopefully save the ball from going into our goal far too much for my liking. Not a sweeper keeper but a keeper that does the basics. Just sign an experienced keeper on a one year deal in a role similar to what Stevie Banks did many years ago.

An experienced centre-half preferably left sided next. Iovu, SCH & Bert for the rcb. Graham and experienced centre half. Is Charlie Dewar left sided? Right-back Naamo & Rawlins. Left-back Farrugia & Ferry although most would think Ferry would be away.

No more 343 would be tremendous.

Camara will struggle to get in the starting xi unless he ups his game significantly

Sevelj and Agyei are ahead of him as a proven partnership that did actually work in the 343 (albeit with Ferry and Luca each side), unfortunately injuries to Fatah and Luca stopped us really ending the season ahead of steam with that line up

If going with a 3 in the middle, then Tait would probably be the 3rd man

Camara can work his way into a 3 though. Goodwin wants him to sit more and it's not his game. As good as he can be Sevelj has had quite a few poor games this season and he shouldn't be guarebteed anything, a good bit of rotation between them all but Agyei is the main man in there.
