  • Cammy Kerr was asked what was his best moment playing for Dundee.
His answer was beating Dundee United.
Their frustration of being in our shadow is obvious.
His greatest moment maybe but how many times have we totally p1ssed him off.

What a pathetic prick. Not even a prick, not even a tickle. Genuinely sad for his parents that that it is his greatest moment.

And it made it special that McGowan scored 😂

          They are a sad bunch

I wonder what the score will be at his testimonial 6-2 against would be appropriate

Its a truly pathetic career highlight however he would have added 200 onto last night's crowd tally by saying it.That one answer from Cammy sums up everything about DFC in the modern day.Their legends will be spinning in their graves.

That was by some distance too.

Could be even more impressive if you take into account the transient student population in the City.

The absolute numbers will fluctuate a little for both teams, depending on performances, but without a doubt it shows how important football is to the city and how much it is prioritised as an "expense"
              Totally Agree

We have been the bigger club for 50 years so have bigger support

In the 60s Dundee had had more success

But you can’t ignore the last 50 years - as it stands we are the much bigger club

Our home crowds are usually at least twice theirs irrespective of league and we have much better travelling support

I don’t think they were only 1k below us in attendances when we were both in the Prem - more like 4K more

They are the wee club and have a wee club mentality - forever in our shadow
With all due respect you can agree or disagree all you like but you are completely ignoring facts while your figure of 4000 is the stuff of fantasy .

I just double checked to make sure I wasn't mistaken about my estimate in the difference of average home attendances last time both clubs were in the same division and as i suspected it was just over 1000 ( 1205 to be precise ) .
Season 2021/2022 Average Home Attendances DUFC 7,065 DFC - 5,860 ( See Link Attached )

Given all the mitigating factors I mentioned previously I don't think there is any doubt my point is a fair one and stands up .
1 extra home derby , The Fun being pretty much rooted to bottom spot all season and never out of bottom 2 while we were playing the last part of season against top 6 teams , us being up at top end of the league and challenging for Europe all season and the fact that as you rightly point out we have been top dogs in terms of success since the mid 70s .

There is nothing between the 2 clubs in terms of size IMO and I think that's actually a good thing for football in the city .

Which team in the Scottish Premiership has the highest attendance? In 2023/24, Celtic attracted crowds of nearly 59,000 to home games.

                • Would not be using a covid season for crowds as a comparison as we missed out on a 8-10k crowd at Christmas and a 12k in August

I'll pop a true comparison on later

                  • I seriously doubt an AVERAGE United attendance of 7065 in a normal season.

                    • However you assess it 1,205 over 5,860 is 20% which is considerable.
Your stats tell our attendances are 20% more than our neighbours which I would have guessed is about right.

I think you will find that in my original post I clearly state the difference is not to be sniffed at , I totally agree it is good .

But Likewise its not massive and given the conflicting fortunes of both the clubs during that season, in the bigger picture , its really nothing that quite easily could swing the other way had the roles been reversed .

Neither DUFC or DFC are BIG clubs , but neither are small clubs either , IMO both are decent size football clubs not as big as the Glasgow , Edinburgh or Aberdeen clubs but both bigger than the rest of the Scottish teams .

Id say both clubs are around the same size at any particularly given time and as one of the other posters alluded to earlier, its testament to football in the city that the attendances are so good in terms of per head of population compared to other cities .

Also it Wasn't the covid season , it was the last time we were both in the SPL which was post covid restrictions .

                        • Also, our season ticket numbers have been growing in recent years. Theirs have been reducing.

I mean, come on, newly promoted, reasonable results, new manager who isn't a clown, haven't played at home for quite a while and it's

                          4700??? Seriously???

                          • and....I'm reliably informed they got more attending Cammy Kerrs testimonial 3000 than attended a recent home Scottish Cup tie v Motherwell 2000. Kinda sums up where they are really!

I have no doubt we have good season ticket sales , i think its a great reflection on our club that's the case.
I also think we are lucky to have a strong out of town support that most clubs would love to benefit from and I'm certainly not sticking up for that lot either I think that's a poor turn out or at least not great .

                              Im just being honest though
Cast your mind back to end of January last year , having hardly been out the top 4/5 all season we are pushing for a European spot as the run in towards the end of season quickly approaches , the business end of the season as they say .

4500 at home to ross county !!... We were a ball-hair away from European football on the back of a very good season and cant pull more than 4500 home fans for what is an important match .

Is that any better than that lot only getting 4700 at home when in reality ,as decent as a start as its been, that's all it is , its still very earlier in the season, they were going in to the game only 4 points above the relegation play off spot ?

Again id say comparing both matches as a comparison example we probably did ,just about ,have more home fans at the respective matches but nothing you would crow about and nothing that given the circumstances couldn't easily be switched .

I just don't buy in to the partisan theory that either of the Dundee clubs are bigger than the other , what matters to me is our our standing in terms of success .
I think at any given time the whole crowds argument could very easily swap back and forward depending on a lot of factors but I'm also happy for other people to have their own opinion , that just happens to be mine .

                              • I was looking for Uniteds highest ever average but can't seem to find it, and what year it was. Aberdeens was just over 24,000, that's some average . I suppose Celtic average over 50,000 now. Different world.
