As a matter of interest Shedka what is the derby sellout capacity of their 'stadium' after allowing for some segregation in the wooden death trap?

I used to enjoy watching matches from that auld stand, as a youngster, if you got a front row seat. Anywhere further back though, and it was like one of the old computer games or spot the ball, when if the ball went so high, or behind a pillar, it disappeared out of view, and you just had to guess where the ball would land back in play. Back then it fairly easy to guess tbf, as it usually ended up in the back of the Dundee net.

Yeah, Dens is a total dump now. In its hey-day, it was a fine old stadium when full. But since they put benches in the home end and got rid of the enclosure under the auld death trap it has become a weird mixture of old and 'budget' new. The 'budget' new stands at each end, not bad for atmosphere when full, but absolutely dire in terms of facilities.

Anyhow, our fans will be there giving it laldy tomorrow. Let's hope the team a win and it's doon the road with 3 points.

I was in the AuldHunStand for the second LC Final in 1980, was just glad to get a ticket but a complete dump to watch football from and that was 44 years ago.
Was also at the top of the Provie for the United Aberdeen Cup Semi final in 1967.
41500 attendance that day, Sheep and United fans both standing in the same end and segregation was about 12 foot wide.

Checking their website, today's max there is just 11850 so a fair bit smaller than Tannadice.
The way they've allowed the stadium to reach dereliction is a slap in the face to their own fans but a very bad image for Scottish football.

That's a bit of a forgotten game. It was the first time United had reached the semi final of a major. We lost 1-0 to an OG from our FB Tommy Millar. I was just a boy, don't really remember much except being too close to the segregation because I remember my old man moving us away from it. Think he was worried there was going to be trouble but I've no idea if there was.

It would be 7 years before we reached the SC Final in 1974 and a Jim McLean side in transition from the Jerry Kerr one wasn't ready for a high quality Celtic side. But it was a sign we were becoming a force in the Scottish game. There was definitely trouble at that one because I was caught up in the middle of it.

It's going a long way back now but our first SF was not long before that in 63 Scottish cup, lost to Rangers, and 64-65 League Cup SF also losing to Rangers, then the one you mention in 67 v Aberdeen, you can see how good a job JK was doing especially once the Scandinavians signed, think 1965 is still one of our best calendar years in our history

Regarding 74, that would have been our first semi final win at Hampden, against Hearts, were we fancied at the time? We finished 8th that season but went onto to have our first top 4 finish the season after 1974/75 ending up 4th

Thanks for pointing out the previous semi finals in 63/64. Dont think we were favourites v Hearts, the side was a mixture of older dependable Jerry K players and McLean signings. It did include Andy Gray though. The best centre forward I've seen in Tangerine I think. Davie Dodds probably had better stats but Gray was fantastic to watch.
Fearless, exciting, brave and deadly. The day he was sold was probably one of the very few days following United that I was upset about a player sale but seemingly the club needed the money the balance the books.

Although i was young i still remember the trouble at both games v Hearts in the Semi final and the replay.Stokie boy is right i think Hearts were FAVS.At the first game i was in the west stand and Hearts fans were outside our exits at fulltime waiting for a battle. For the replay i was in the uncovered east end and The Shimmy and Hearts fans provided further entertainment with running in game battles across the sparsely populated terracing.

United of course won a brilliant replay 4-2 and The Shimmy were clear winners off the park.
