The perfect post, agree 100%.Originally posted by Stoke_Arab View PostJust for once I'd like to see us start with high energy and high intensity right from the kick off. We need to dominate play from the start, not wait for St Mirren to ease themselves into the game.
Hopefully the home crowd can do their bit as well

Its these type of games that define your season,if you have ambitions of finishing top 6 and challenging for europe you need to be winning home games v Killie,Livi,Well ,ST Mirren,Falkirk etc.So far we have failed miserably taking only 1 point out of 6 against two of the teams mentioned.
Livingston came to Tannadice and were looking like Barcelona in the 1st half yet they were blown away by Hibs at Easter Rd.We can beat The Fun away in 1st gear,The Sheep at home in 2nd and get credible results away to Hibs and The Huns so why the F can we not deal with Livi and Killie at home?.
I honestly have not got a clue but if we cannie start winning these type of games then its gonna be pretty much a wasted season with one of the best squads we have had in years.

I think part of the reason lies with the type of football that the majority of our overseas signings have been used to.
Possession based, tactical patient.
As opposed to "go out there at 100% and smash fk out of them" Scottish style.
I get that JG wants us to be a better footballing side and we very much are, but we need to marry that skill to early high intensity which puts opponents on the back foot from kick off at Tannadice.
C'mon United 🧡

Tough game, we beat them last season by matching up with them physically, we don't aren't anywhere near as strong in that department this season but more quality going forward. Hopefully the centre halves stand up to the physical challenge tomorrow and nobody falls asleep marking at a set play.

I get your point about the physicality but it’s maybe more attitude. On paper we should still have these physical attributes - Bert, Keresztes and particularly Iovu are hardly midgets at the back and between Camara and Vicko in the middle we could and should have plenty physicality in the middle. It’s maybe more down to how we use these attributes rather than not having them in the first place. However having said that primarily we are where we are in the League not because we’ve been playing badly, far from it, but it’s down to stupid individual errors at the back. There’s only been one game where we’ve truly deserved phuck all and that was Killie at home, but otherwise we should have won at Falkirk, we should have won at Hibs, we should have won V Livi and we should have taken at least a point against Hearts. The fact we didn’t was 100% down to idiotic individual defending - cut that out and we’d have been in an unbelievable position right now.Originally posted by JUSTaway View PostTough game, we beat them last season by matching up with them physically, we don't aren't anywhere near as strong in that department this season but more quality going forward. Notice that Jerry Kerr is open once again today - that is every home game to date this season this has happened. As an Arab who has been going up for not far shy off 50 years it gives you immense pride to see just how far the latent size of our support has grown over time, particularly over the schitshow that has been the last decade. Amazing stuff.
P2BAA.

Indeed. As someone who remembers the 1970's when Dundee supporters favourite chant was 'United's won f all' we have come a long way. Although the 80's was obviously our halcyon days, support wise we were still growing (we did a couple of times get a higher average than now but have to remember capacity was larger then and visits of the likes of Celtic and Rangers often got 20k crowds which would skew the averages as far as United fans). Our away attendances have also been impressive. I think we are seeing the result of generations of dominance in the city.

The wind in the match against Livi was a total leveler. Killie on the other hand we were just utter ****e.Originally posted by GUNBOAT View PostIts these type of games that define your season,if you have ambitions of finishing top 6 and challenging for europe you need to be winning home games v Killie,Livi,Well ,ST Mirren,Falkirk etc.So far we have failed miserably taking only 1 point out of 6 against two of the teams mentioned.

I agree with you we definitely have more legs midfield and up top, was probably meaning more of an aggressive mindset needed by centre halves today, but yeah single biggest problem is individual mistakes, switching off.Originally posted by JamesMcClean View PostI get your point about the physicality but its maybe more attitude. Agreed. We miss the warrior aggression that Gallacher and Holt brought and it's cost us at times when the back 3 just want to play football. Sometimes in Scottish football you need bravery and willingness to clatter your opponent occasionally. But they bring other positives and hopefully as time goes on they'll get better and better as a unit. I'm guilty of sometimes forgetting that they all came from different clubs.Originally posted by JUSTaway View PostI agree with you we definitely have more legs midfield and up top, was probably meaning more of an aggressive mindset needed by centre halves today, but yeah single biggest problem is individual mistakes, switching off.
