  • Oh dear,

    Oh dear,

So close to the opening game of our season return to the PL, and.....

Apart from the much questioned signing of Dominic Lewis Calvert, we seem to aspire to the same recruitment strategy of all those teams/clubs that used to be the most criticised by Leeds fans.......clubs trading on their name, rather than their real tradition, recruiting from wherever cheap potential meant low cost investment.

We will start the new season with fewer British (stress in BRITISH) players in the 1st team squad than at any time in the clubs history (and probably even fewer who stand a chance of actually playing).

"We are all Leeds", rings very hollow when we are no more Leeds than Arsenal are Arsenal, Liverpool are Liverpool, Chelsea are Chelsea, Scum are Scum. We used to be different, for a good reason, no matter what division, no matter what success or failure. Now, we're no different than all the other wannabees, just much less than those who already are.

Oh well, we can only dream of joining the big spenders like Wrexham one day. ☺

One thing for sure is clubs history & traditions speak for themselves but history does not win matches !

Mmm, so Parkinson at Wrexham has introduced a host of new signings in preparation for life in the Championship within their ambitious 2 year plan set in place into reaching the PL, I'm reading.

Apparently blown a total summer budget of 20m thus far before no doubt rattling his tin-can for further reinforcements in January to try & join us in la, la land.

Not a fan of Wrexham financing as Reynolds has built a diverse business portfolio, leveraging his celebrity status to acquire, invest in & then market the various companies.
His involvement strategy in production & heavy use of marketing companies 'short-term' sees Reynolds become the main spokesperson for said companies via bombardment of his stylised campaigns using a succession of produced series of creative ads promoting the 'carrier' onto TV & to his millions of social media followers in cult like fashion designed to promote & then sell.

Shades of the Sam Hammam Wimbledon FC 23 year journey of rise & fall looming, possibly for them football wise ?
Within Hammams book on those heady days of promotions he ended with 'Unfortunately, things from a Wimbledon point of view did not work out like the brochure promised' - wrote Hammam, mmmm, ditto Ridsdale some may say too.

Interestingly, Hamman repeated the same words at the end of his Welsh folly mega bucks dabble at Cardiff too, via a High Court writ in Hammams admission within litigation with Cardiff City that he was the man behind a secret 24m loan to the club which brought to an end 12 years of financing mystery.

Thus outing the who or what was Langston - the mysterious Panama-based firm whose loan of 24m to the club in 2004 under the Cardiff chairmanship of Sam Hammam which had taken the club to the High Court on the brink of administration several times.

Oh dear, oh dear, maybe we actually do have 'sensible' LUFC owners with an understanding of long term investment that know the true way to honour the clubs heritage will be to drive performance with focus to elevate performance & deliver results in the long run.

For your digestion the Leeds ownership recently raised 120 million via a share issue to existing ER investors, designed to aid with the clubs cashflow & to be put towards plans to redevelop the stadium in LS11.
Not rocket science but sensible if a tad just too safe maybe ?

Also, Rangers & Leeds will continue to be run as separate entities despite falling under the same ownership umbrella with the 49ers commitment at Elland Road 'unchanged' state our USA strategists.
Sure Crystal Palace noted that too.

As ever time will tell - but enjoy the ride regardless of whichever clubs fortunes you follow & look after yourself in mind, body & Yorkshire soul & keep posting.

    Just saying

Might be a surprise but I'm largely in agreement regarding the changes that have taken place at Wrexham, at least insofar as the team is concerned. How those changes have been financed is frankly irrelevant, but necessary if they hope to survive in the Championship. They retained many players who started out playing at National League level up to the point where their third successive promotion had been achieved, an achievement that is unique in English football. The Championship is, as we know all too well, a meat grinder of a league and without suitable investment they would (may still), be ground up and spit out by seasons end.

I mentioned the paucity of British players in the squad. That was wrong of me. I hanker for the days (not very long ago) when we had players who genuinely played for the shirt, irrespective of nationality, the likes of Alioski, Klich, Dallas, Phillips (yes, him too!), Hernandez, etc. The reversion to Ortas supermarket sweep recruitment strategy seems to be delivering a hotch potch of good, bad, indifferent and a couple of crocks thrown in for good measure, uninspiring at best.

As you say, time will tell.

We are a well run club now. Regardless of your take on whether the foreign ownership and players have added to the quality of the product. The product suffers because world football management and the FA are very poor stewards. They are as corrupt as politicians and have the same need for power and money.

It's very obvious that this transfer window was done with a very cautious and worst case scenario approach. I know it's negative to look at things negatively but in our case focusing on staying up along with a plan to sustain the club, if relegated, has worked pretty well.

I think we will be fortunate this year. I think the clock runs out for Wolves and I don't see much positive going on at Brentford. I'm bummed for Alf but don't see them surviving.

Like the old saying "you don't have to be able to outrun the bear.... you just need to be faster than the slowest runner". I think we'll be better than the bottom three. I very much like the emphasis on some size and aerial weapons. I think it works and buys us time to acquire and develop some really good players.

I?m reasonably happy with our signings, given we had and still have potentially, a nucleus of Premiership quality in the existing squad. If we stay fit (Big ask I know) I don?t think we?ll get relegated. There?s enough quality, I?m hoping that we get the all important start which generates the confidence in the players who in turn gain more confidence in each other and Farke.

DCL is a high quality prem proven player and his weakness is not his ability but as everyone knows he?s very prone to injuries. Big if but if he can be managed physically, he could be an absolute gem. Few strikers can head the ball like he does, he passes well, holds the ball up well, has oodles of experience at very high levels of competition and I can see him providing many assists and contributing well with goals.

Perhaps we can get Khannouss over the line now?

That would leave me with two disappointments - we couldn?t compete for Muniz or Paixao. Those in addition to what we have brought in would have had us very ready for a go at mid table.

MT is spot on imo, we need to take incremental steps in this league whilst ensuring a foothold in what is a hugely money driven challenge. Radrizzani couldn?t do it but I think the 49ers can. They have the money, expertise, history of doing it already so why not at Leeds/Rangers? To fail would be a weird thing for them to achieve. Success helps drive the commercial revenues which will increase club values etc. This is our chance to try and join the elite in this league and not be a Brentford, Fulham, Brighton who are stalling, Wolves and so on.

I am more worried about the end product and whether I?ll like it or not. That?s when I can get very synical.

For now though, I hope and trust the 49ers and Farke?s bunch to secure our status in the Prem and then join the elite in a few years. Until a hole is blasted in that trust, I see no reason to start the negative, anti 49ers, anti Farke chat.

          Just saying ????.

Sorry what? The ones with Premier League experience have failed, from Bogle to Harrison to Rodon Ambadu, who both could not get a game, and the list goes on. Only Longstaff and Lewis have that experience.

Your highlighted words - by that I mean they are (in my opinion) of a premiership quality. I think they will do ok in the PL.

The past, different teams, different circs. Give the players who have matured a good chance to show themselves in the PL. I think they can make the jump up. At least I am comfortable giving them that chance

Perhaps you feel we should turnover the entire squad? Happy days when you?re not governed by Spending limits.

Spendwise the gap is frightening, tonight?s opener between Liverpool and Bournemouth is a fine example, Liverpool starting eleven is 700 million, they?ve spent 300 million this season, Bournemouth however have had to sell some of their better players, it?s a mismatch between the top 4 and the rest, sad really that it?s not even a competition anymore?..bring back the 1970?s.

If you want to stay in the premiership,it's all about beating the teams in the bottom half of the table, any points against the top teams are a bonus.

Saying all that Bournemouth are doing very well, goes against what I said earlier.

Poor buggers last 6 minutes Although the first 5 or 6 rounds are when all the surprises happen, and then back to the usual corrupt league.
