Kicked out of the playoff final for spying and replaced by Boro.

    Right decision or not?

Done it numerous times this season and not a one off so only got themselves to blame.

      Absolutely.

Leeds made a similar mistake and were fined. The key difference being that, at the time, the offence was against the spirit of gentlemanly conduct, there were no EFL rules forbidding such behaviour (which were subsequently introduced directly as a result of the Leeds offence.

Southampton management must have sanctioned this and I believe the punishment(s) should be extended to those responsible.

        Yep. 100%

But why only a 4 point deduction next season seems too light to me? If the penalties aren’t severe then cheats will take a small points deduction or £200k fine any day.

They should have been chucked down to L2

Maybe so Billy, but after Bielsagate the EFL made new rules to prevent there being any "grey areas". Southampton knew that just like every other clb in the EFL. The others haven't (as far as we know) transgressed, Southampton send some wet-behind-the-ears intern to do the deed, what could go wrong? Errr lose the chance of promotion to the PL, that's what. Worth the risk? Probably not, in hindsight.

No sympathy at all, rank stupidity of the first order.

@ WTF.....IMO, you are 100% correct. It wasn't in the rules when Leeds did it. It is in the rules now. They knew.

My mate suggested we will probably get a ten point deduction too for giving them the idea?

So, another Yorkshire club will be in the Premier League. If Hull dont go up, maybe Leeds can make an offer for their 15 goal striker. Lad called Joe Gelhardt.

Seems harsh when you consider how badly Citeh, Scum and Chelsea bend the rules on financials. The FA is just a corrupt paper tiger that attacks one of the teams that don't accept the big 6 dogma.

If I'm team owner I'd much rather have a team "spying on me" than someone spending 10's of millions of dollars stealing my best players.

Not in the least bit harsh, despite what the club CEO bleats on about.

He mentions the Leeds case, without bothering to mention that the RULES that his club have admitted breaking several times, were introduced AFTER the Leeds case and specifically to clear up any grey area regarding what can and can?t be done to ?observe? training sessions.

He also mentions other penalties handed down and the financial ?penalty? of being kicked out of the playoffs as being worth ?200 million. ONLY IF THEY WON THE PLAYOFF FINAL, which was by no means certain, so the financial penalty is null and void, despite Saints wishing it was otherwise. They are down the ticket revenue for the Wembley final, nothing more, nothing less
They got caught, and they are now facing the consequences of knowingly breaking EFL rules. Had they NOT been caught, nothing would be happening and they would have gotten away with it. ?Don?t do the crime if you can?t do the time?.

By the way, it?s the EFL who are responsible for the enquiry and the eventual sanction as recommended by the independent panel appointed by the EFL to investigate/pronounce guilt etc. not the FA who can sit back and watch whilst doing as you suggest, letting those in the PL get away with (almost) murder. Not saying its right, just that despite the EFL being the ?poor relation? to the FA, they do at least in this case seem to be acting with due speed, and reaching definitive conclusions and handing out correct sanctions.

If the sanctions have been fully posted beforehand, the club cannot really have any comeback, even though it's obviously a terrible blow to their fans, especially those who've put a lot of time, effort and (obviously) money into watching the Saints both home and away - even their armchair fans. Imagine if it was us!

The four point deduction for next season does seem particularly additionally punitive (again, I'm not totally sure how the EFL have worded their applicable sanctions).

It wouldn't have applied this season but, with hindsight (playing devil's advocate), a larger points deduction for 25/26 that would've dropped them out of the playoffs would've seemed enough. Middlesbrough simply progress then by default.

Still think there is much worse nonsense going on in the PL itself. I doubt that will be addressed any time soon.

It could be argued that the Championship is a better league anyway...
