He and many others lost me with the "taking the knee" nonsense. Virtue signalling hypocrisy with a holier than thou BS attitude irks me. His woke opinion is so more insightful than mine, because he's a footballer?? No! I cheered for his goals but I groaned louder for his incredible misses. I wish him well, but thankfully it's gonna be somewhere else

Clumsy player who tried to influence a game but perhaps failed more times than he succeeded. I?ll remember him most for getting our fans up for singing Wilder is a ****er.
Sad he leaves in this way but football is such a stark and brutal business these days that it doesn?t surprise me that players behave like the commodities they are.
I?m still waiting to give Pablo a proper send off. A fabulous player who we miss the likes of so much.

I sincerely wish him well. 👍
Far too intelligent to be a footballer, imo.
His personna did not bode well with his available footballing skills often creating a detrimental emotional outcome, making his intelligence a double-edged sword, imo.
Could have been a gilded lilly type if not for those horrendous injuries inflicted upon his ectomorphic limbs which tall lean folks with low body fat are prone to cos they lack the muscle mass & fat for shock absorption required for joint support.
Great under Marcelo who understood how to get the best out of him tactically, physically & mentally, 'tho.

Yep every season under Bielsa he improved and added something to his game.
Was never 100% convinced by him to perform when it mattered or to stay fit but in the first promotion and then thr first season back in the PL he gave us some great moments.
Be interesting where he ends up next. Wouldn?t surprise me to see him in France or MLS.

Opportunity cost - A text book example
Never my first choice and I think we missed out some solid options over the years as well as internal. Never could figure out Nketia is sitting and he?s missing sitter after sitter.
Who comes to Leeds knowing they are sitting behind him?
His injury prone nature made it impossible for a coach to build a squad around him
MT is right. He?s very sharp and will do very well in the booth or business if goes that route. A good guy.

That is interesting information about German kids.Originally posted by hopelesslyoptimistic View PostNo such thing as too bright too be a footballer. In Germany many more mid class background kids make it as pros. Maybe explains some of their national team results over the years.
Bamford was instrumental in getting us up after 16 seasons. Thats good enough for me. I wish him all the very best.

Mmm, many points to consider in my scenario which I offered in brief, H. 😂Originally posted by hopelesslyoptimistic View PostNo such thing as too bright too be a footballer. Over reliance on analytical intelligence can cause players to ignore their gut instincts or innate bodily responses that are crucial for 'quick-instinctive' plays on the field, for sure.
I will also highlight the unique cognitive profile of elite footballers with additionall qualities like mental toughness & group cohesion which are found to significantly enhance players overall performance too.
Intelligence can become a hindrance if it leads to overthinking, hesitation or an inability to balance cognitive processes with the physical demands & emotional intensity of the game too, traits I saw in Bamfords game play.
Often intelligent players might struggle to manage their emotions during 'high-pressure' situations, which can hamper their decision making overall performance, too, again traits of PB we have all seen, H.
Not knocking backgrounds, far from it, just offering an opinion thats been researched & studied with regard to players of high intellectual & erudite state of mind playing in football.
In my mind, then 'football-intelligence' is about the quality of 'decision making' & the thousands of decisions a player has to make during a match. The better their understanding of the game, the better their footballing awareness decision-making in a nutshell is my point - hence my Bielsa approach merit.
The below article pretty much is how I kinda see things unfold when watching a game to spot genuine 'footballing-intelligence' operate, more so when I used sit in the stands jotting downs team players impact on games via individual performance stat sheets.
Anyway heres something to read on your Sunday morning late breakfast after you have circumnavigated 'Cloudflare' after yer weekly jog, H, before DF identifies a possible Bamf replacement for your perusal. 🤣

Some more info, Cherry. 👍Originally posted by cherrypie7 View PostThat is interesting information about German kids.

My dissertations degree programmes detailed elite football players have higher levels of cognitive abilities compared to the general population.
A recent innovative new study from Oxford University Department of Psychiatry, HQ Warneford Hospital produced this too.
