  • Wolves - v - Leeds United *** Matchday Thread***

    Saturday 20th September 3:00pm | Molineux

Leeds United head to down to Molineux on Saturday with a clear objective: to create chances in the final third, and find the back of the net - something they haven't achieved in open play so far this season. Stats show they have averaged two shots on target per game, but have hope, as they face a Wolves side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, without a point.

Willy Gnonto has been ruled out with a calf strain, while Dan James departed Fulham?s 1‑0 defeat clutching a muscle problem that will keep him on the sidelines for the next few games. Without a natural right winger, the gaffer may move Noah Okafor across, handing Jack Harrison his first league start of the season on the left flank, or opt for midfield back-up in the form of Brenden Aaronsson - like he did last week at Fulham.

Compounding the woes is the unavailability of first‑choice goalkeeper Lucas Perri, who is nursing a quad injury; opening the door for Carl Darlow once again. Ao Tanaka ? who was an unused substitute at Craven Cottage ? and Dutch forward Joel Piroe have been named as possible starters. Piroe?s omission from the Fulham matchday squad, when Farke opted to give Dominic Calvert‑Lewin his inaugural Premier League start, underscores the manager?s desperation to inject fresh potency up front.

Leeds have amassed four points from four fixtures, a record that will be swallowed whole if they fail to secure at least a point at Wolves. The Midlands outfit, sit at the bottom of the Premier League without a single point, and their own morale will be fragile. A win for Leeds would not only widen the gap between themselves and the bottom three, but also provide a rare boost of confidence for a squad that has struggled for creativity.

As for Wolves, Javi Pereira will once again be without star striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who remains sidelined by a lingering Achilles issue. Experienced shot stopper Jos? Sa could return between the sticks after recoving from illness. Dutch centre-back Ki‑Jana Hoever has been out for several weeks with a muscle injury, and may have to settle for a place on the bench. Hugo Bueno impressed at right wing‑back, yet newly signed Jackson Tchatchoua is already in contention for a starting berth.

If we get no points, we have no hope.

Think the back 8 players are good enough Spaldy. Farke and team have also seemingly studied a lot of the defensively solid teams and taken elements of that.

Front 3 worries me and also our ability to make impact subs.

3 points would be huge today.

          Hop

Agree 100% on defense. We are good enough to stay up. However if we are pushed around physically we?ll be found out real fast.

first para in Belfasts op is key today.....

one aspect still a worry for us is around our shooting with an urgent increase for the proportion of shots taken from inside the penalty area this season needed.....
...... with 74 touches in the opposition box.
...... we have the second worst shots on target.
...... and 1 goal to show from a penalty.

that needs redressing urgently with our dead ball situations needing improvement and more direct running into the box would not go amiss either as more penalty opportunities would arise.....

i am looking for more direct aggressive forward play in that pitch area today which should now be emerging from Calvert Lewin who has that specific capacity in his locker.....

we are just a few matchdays in but opposition goalkeepers now need to be compromised more mentally and visually by us.....

aggressive forwards create a sense of pressure and intimidate goalkeepers and our attacking players need to make a goalkeepers weaknesses more pronounced leading to an increased fear factor to creep in..... and that certainly gets defenders compromised.....

this game will be won if played to our strengths being individually unleashed making a goalkeeper weaknesses more pronounced and a defence caught in two minds on a Molineux Desso grassmaster pitch surface perfect for playing such aggressive well executed football....

Premier League Fanfest is in Kansas City. Leeds rep out there is Stuart Dallas. Legend. He said that survival is the main ambition this season. Well now we've heard it definitively. Thinks Calvert-Lewin can be the main striker.

I quite liked the championship anyway.
Seems that’s as far as the club’s ambitions go.

                          We are doomed.

More chance of billy getting a round in at the pub than us scoring.

                          Championship again ole ole

Might as well keep Farke for next season seasons campaign.
