  • Leeds United - v - Bournemouth ***Matchday Thread***

    Saturday 27th Sept 3:00pm |Elland Road

Bournemouth make the nine-hour round trip to Elland Road at the weekend, intent on preserving their spectacular start to the season that has catapulted them into joint-second place in the table. Their task won?t be easy; they face a hard-working and organised Leeds unit yet to concede at home this season. Moreover, Bournemouth have never even managed a point at Elland Road in any of their seven previous visits to West Yorkshire, but boast a squad of stars with a formidable record of their own ? they haven?t allowed their opponents more than six shots in total over their last four games.

Leeds, for their part, arrive off the back of a morale-boosting win at Wolves. Goals for Stach, Calvert-Lewin and Okafor gave the side not just three points, but also a first taste of attacking fluency. As CJay observed, the numbers ? seven points from five matches ? suggest a decent start, one that shows this squad can be competitive. The real challenge, though, begins now. Bournemouth sit in the top four, come with a Bielsa-inspired coach in Andoni Iraola, and have already beaten Tottenham and Brighton while giving champions Liverpool a genuine scare.

CJay sees the Cherries as perhaps the purest expression of ?BielsaBall? outside of Bielsa himself: a 4-2-3-1 system, full-backs pressed high, quick rotations in attack and a man-to-man press in defence. The result is football of intensity and risk ? statistically they are the league?s best pressing team, but that same relentlessness can leave them vulnerable if Leeds play with composure. For Leeds, going over the press into Calvert-Lewin may be the most effective route, but tactical balance is key; an isolated striker won?t cut it, and the availability of Tanaka, James or Gnonto could tilt the plan.

Farke himself struck a careful balance between praise for Bournemouth and belief in his own side. ?We take it game by game,? he said, noting the quality of the visitors and their right to be in the top four. Yet he stressed that Leeds can take points against anyone, especially with Elland Road becoming a fortress. He welcomed Jayden Bogle back into training after a minor knock, hinted that Dan James could feature after progress in his rehab, but confirmed Wilfried Gnonto will miss out. In goal, Lucas Perri remains sidelined, with Karl Darlow set to continue after two impressive displays.

The German coach also highlighted the importance of confidence, especially among his attacking players. Calvert-Lewin?s goal at Wolves was described as ***** not only for the points but for the striker?s leadership and professionalism, traits that Farke believes will prove invaluable across the season. He praised Okafor?s sharpness and willingness to take risks, even if those risks need refining, and was quick to underline that set-pieces and defensive organisation remain central to Leeds? development.

So, the stage is set: a Leeds side buoyed by belief, but conscious of the step up in class, against a Bournemouth team whose high-intensity blueprint makes them one of the division?s most watchable and dangerous opponents. The history at Elland Road is in Leeds? favour, yet the form book tilts towards the visitors. For Farke and his players, Saturday is about marrying the spirit of Molineux with discipline, resilience and the courage to take the initiative. Do that, and Elland Road may just remain unbreached.

Now that's better, great goal. A shot was it out of the box, imagine that.

Who would have thought of that shoot from outside the box and score?

Leeds players have to learn that on the break they mustn't pass it to Aaronson. He will lose the ball, because he isn't sure what to do with it.

Okafor took a slight knock. I think James will come on for Aaronson soon.
