As a former alcoholic I can understand how destructive it can be.
Whilst I've had a wild and successful in the real world, I can only imagine how deafening the silence is for someone like Gazza when he's alone, the voices in her head as he sits alone, the road of the crowds still in his ears from 25 yrs ago.
The lad never had a good family around him or people that helped him mature. Like him or loath him I think Gazza would be a more stable person had he played for Fergi.
Gazza is an addict and the problem is that he's become a caricature of himself, the persona has overtaken the person.
When the only thing that is left is the fiction the base is gone and there is no stability.
I lost a lot through alcoholism. a lot. However, at rock bottom there were people who love me extending their hands to pull me back up.
Gazza sadly is a lost soul. One of the truly free spirits of the game and in life. That is blessing by god and sadly his curse.

Aye - I've often thought the same regarding Gazza and Fergie Rag.
Someone I know saw him at theatre doing a "talk" and said it was one of saddest thing they'd seen, he was, as you said a caricuture if himself - playing to worst elements of his personality etc.
