Wissa was really trying far too hard.

Elanga. The lad has no confidence and every time he gets the ball 50,000 Geordies moan and groan.

It would have all been so different had he banged in that chance against Villa in the first game of the season.

      Funny old world.

Wissa will still come good. Elanga should probably just play away from home.

A couple of goals a piece v Wolves would do the world of good.

Elanga looked ok after coming on nice link up play down the right and the way he took that cross field pass down showed what he is capable but sadly after that promising few minutes he started to struggle again,he needs a proper run of games not bits and bobs then we can see if he can do the business or not,Wissa went right off the boil after missing that early chance i can see Woltemade starting against wolves but maybe if Wissa and Elanga both start they can nab a goal each and boost their confidence.

Yeah man, I'd like to see Wissa and Elanga both get on the score sheet and build their confidence.

              Elanga's confidence is absolutely shot.

Really feel for the lad because he's clearly a good player. A goal would do absolute wonders for his confidence.

Wissa should have went to the AFCON.

I thought maybe Wissa would be the main man, but now I'm certain that Woltemade is our best striker.

Wissa played for 70 min with this stats:

                  11 touches
                  2 Big chances missed
3 out 5 passes was accurate
                  1 of 3 duels won

                  Thats shoite

They have both been disappointing so far. They can only get better from here. I think they will, especially Wissa. Elanga gets me more concerned. Still, he's done it before.

We can't sell them on without a big loss anyway - we need to make them work. Soon.

Wissa was a panic buy. He is at best 30-35 mln back up player for top-5 team (that we aim for) and he does just that.
Add to that his injury, no pre season.

Elanga is different - young, full pre-season. The club had entire year to look for RW and given Miggy departure, this position should had been a marquee signing, statement of intent.
Advantage of hindsight, but for me it was poor homework from recruiting team

To be fair, I thought Elanga was a class signing. Third-highest amount of assists last season (behind the legendary Jacob Murphy and the entitled Mo Salah) was an indication that he could walk straight into the team and start delivering for what was supposed to be Isak, later big Nick and Wissa.

However, he's looked like Bambi on ice so far. Poor ball control, poor crossing and obviously a poor output so far. I've seen no signs of improvement. Thus I'm worried.

Both been disappointing so far (especially Elanga) but too early IMO to be taking such firm opinions.

                            Agreed.

Personally I think both will come good.

I don?t want to be quick and judge and Elanga just yet.

                              Wissa
No pre season (I suppose his fault)

Long injury layoff (I suppose the fault of having no preseason)

Means he isn?t up to match sharpness yet, and it is showing.

I actually think if there was trust in Osula, Wissa and Newcastle would have benefited from him finding his match fitness and scoring boots in the AFCON.

For Elanga we need to find a system that works with him. Similar stats to Murphy last season but a totally different player.

Elanga is rapid, takes on the player in front but with Woltemade playing so deep, no one is up there with him. If we see him carrying the ball from deeper and a striker that stays on the last defender, and our opposite winger driving in to the box, I think we?ll see the best of him.

Otherwise, if we don?t get players on the box, why not play on his pace and see if he?s a threat cutting on from the left?
