  • Head coach Arne Slot has been sacked by Liverpool

The Dutchman, 47, guided the Reds to their 20th league title in his debut season but they have struggled during his second year, finishing fifth in the Premier League.

Recently departed Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is the leading contender to replace Slot.

"That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and - most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves - successful," Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group said in a statement.

"As such, our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field.

"From the moment that we first encountered Arne, it was immediately clear that he is an individual who does not merely accept responsibility, he embraces it."

Apperently they are massively concerned that Iraola may go elsewhere.

I'm surprised they have done it now though, I'd have thought they'd have done it earlier and gone for Xabi.

It's going to be a disaster if they sign Iraola. His defensive counter attacking style is not going to go down well with the Kopites.

They'll have it and when be on his back in just over a year.

Well Crystal Palace had offered him a contract; he might like the challenge. CP have always had good players running through their team. However, he may be swayed by the big budget of the Scouser's.

He lost the dressing room. He had to go.

Slot spent half a billion quid 😳 last summer on a new front line and full backs.

Then proceeded to blame Salah for the clubs downfall - when in actual fact it he needed to be looking at Van Dyckhead.

VVD was dross last season, a bully on the pitch who couldn?t stop anyone from getting past him with anything but his elbow, slow, couldn?t turn, just pointed fingers at everybody else, a bully in the dressing room.

He scored a few goals which kept the limelight off him and the dump dwellers blinded to his failures.

Liverpool never intended to buy Wirtz, Ekitike AND Isak

They tapped up Isak, when they thought they couldn?t get him they overpaid for Ekitike (wages and fee) but when the sulk made it clear he was never playing for us again Liverpool were left no choice but to sign him or be reported for illegally approaching players.

A whole new front 3 and bigger than the club Salah was never going to gel. Huffs from his star signings meant he threw Salah under the bus to get him out the team and them on the pitch.

Yes, Salah?s stats dropped, but he had players alongside him that kept the ball rather than everything going through him.

He gets dropped, the old guard get behind him, the dressing room splits and Slot is on borrowed time from then.

          They are a talented side

It was a clash of Egos why Liverpool failed last season.

Slot Salah Robertson VVD Isak even Trent thinking he was good enough for Real Madrid ffs 😆

And I know some of those egos are leaving before next season, but I suspect the ones left will not show the respect for Iraola and it will be a losing battle for him.

What that team needed in terms of recruitment last summer, the didn't get. Guehi and a world class RB to replace the departed TAA. They bought that Italian CB with a history of ACL injuries, kid who immediately did his ACL (again) instead of rebuilding their wanting defence.

It's been a worse fall off than NUFC. Clearly finishing 12th is worse than where the dips finished in the league however the drop from Champions on 84 points to 5th of 60 points. 24 point drop.

NUFC in 24/25 Premier League campaign with 49 points.
This is a massive 17-point drop from the previous 2024/25 season, where the club picked up 66 points.

Chelsea earned 69 points in the 2024/25 Premier League season. In the recently concluded 2025/26 season, they finished with 58 points. This represents a 11-point drop year-over-year.

In the 2025/26 Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur earned 48 points, a 16-point decrease from their 64-point finish in the 2024/25 campaign.
