  • First step in Wissa deal unlocked

Fabio Silva has completed his move to Dortmund.

This in turn could unlock Beier moving to Brentford, which would then unlock Wissa being available.

All eyes on Brentford’s move for Beier.

I’d still favour a move for Ramos, but do understand Wissa will be cheaper and more importantly has Premier League experience… his f**king about like Isak (not to the same degree admittedly), his age and what price we end up paying are still a concern… but experience and if we get him at a reasonable price is probably the most pragmatic deal to be made I guess though.

Aye, Wissa has behaved like a knob.

Pragmatism is a very good word fro what we need to do, Ian.

I suspect that might also apply to how we deal with Isak, especially if we manage to get another striker in.

Sometimes, your hand is forced so you have to ty to get the best available resolution out of the situation that is left to you. If we're going to spend over 100 mil combined withing the space of a few days, we need to recoup that money from somewhere. And that 'somewhere' is obviously Isak.

We might 'save face' by forcing him to stay but at what cost.

Not sure Woltemade price tag is being covered by an Isak sale, we offered more for Ekitike before all this kicked off with Isak, Eddie was saying g they could play together.

If we are going to bring in Wissa and another midfielder then maybe that would be dependent on how much we get for Isak… I’d still want to see Harvey Elliot as part of the deal… 100m & Elliot.

We’d have Ramsey to cover on the left for Big Joe, Elliot to cover on the right for Bruno, and push come to shove either Miley for Tonali (though not sure what Miley’s best position is to be honest) or even play Schar as a 6 and Thiaw as RCB.

We’d have got to rotate the midfield more, they run their legs off and with 4 competitions that’s going to either leave them shadows of themselves, or injured due to fatigue.

Plus we know we’ll likely lose Joelinton for 5 and probably 10 yellows over the season, Bruno for 5 yellows.

Options in game plan, and game plan options due to different player attributes… but hell, another striker and another midfielder and I’ll be on cloud 9 come 19:01 on Monday 🤣

On the ?saving face? part, totally agree? I?d rather get rid as long as it?s around 135-140 minimum, stop the noise and get on with it without all the distraction and negative press? bad enough when we don?t have games to play, but now the season has started we need to get it sorted.

Talk of sitting on the bench I described as bombastic bo!!ocks in another thread recently, and it?s just f**king self harm.

Strikers behaving like knobs seems to be the order of the day. Looks like Strand Larsen is up to similar and wants out of Wolves (to us by the sounds of it).

If he does go to the dippers, he can thank his lucky stars they?ve already played at SJP this season (although there?s always the cups)!

Really not or never have been conviced by Wissa or Larsen. Happy to get one in as Wilson cover that said. Wissa is no spring chicken and it feels like another attitude being imported - though its unlikely Madrid will bother us anytime soon so maybe a safe pair of hands for a few years.

To be fair to Wissa, he did score 19 Premier League goals goals last season in 35 games, and none of them were pens.

He’s a different option, thrives on the through ball so could see him working well with Bruno, and out wingers, mostly scores from inside the box, and can play across the front line, so he’s flexible as an option. He is quick and accelerates quickly… which with Elanga and Gordon could work well.

His age is a concern, turns 29 in a couple of days time (3rd Sept), so there’d be little to no resale value on him, his recent behaviour is a big red flag but he has never been a trouble maker as far as I can remember till recently, and at his age this is his last big move possible I’d say.

Depends on how long a contract he wants, at 29 almost I’d offer no more than a 4 year contract (I’d want to offer 3 with a 1 year option both have to trigger to be honest), but on 25k/week at Brentford I wouldn’t see his wages being too much of an issue.

Also depends how much Brentford have as a minimum, their 45m offer for Beier has been rejected I’ve seen, and can see Brentford trying to ask for as much as they pay… which would be a no go for me at his age.

Pro’s and con’s, like any player I guess, but on a relatively short term option without mega wages, and bringing Prem experience (which I think will end up favouring him), he’s a player we could play for 2-3 years, till we have the finances to upgrade.

I’d prefer Ramos, but he’d cost somewhere north of 70m and his wages would be substantially more, and would leave us with 2 strikers with no Prem experience… but would have potential good resale value.

At this stage I’d take either, but that’s based on a deal worth 140m for Isak AND a transfer request coming in from the rat.
