Looking back over the window? and I?m not going to even mention Isak much? because f**k him, he?s gone and doesn?t deserve anymore of our time or effort
Out:
Isak: 130m
Kelly: 20m
Longstaff: 15m
165m
In:
Ramsdale: 25m (if we take option to buy him)
Thiaw: 35m
Ramsey: 43m
Elanga: 55m
Woltemade: 69m
Wissa: 55m
282m
A net committed spend of 117m (assuming we keep Ramsdale) and all add on conditions are met.
We could still sell more in Jan? I do hope a similar offer comes up for Osula? and that?s not just to get the money in, but to give the lad games and minutes that he is going to struggle to get here.
It?s been transformational this transfer window with 6 first team players in.
Strength in depth in nearly every position, so a much stronger bench and looking at the below we?re likely seeing competition for a spot on the bench for the first time in a long long time.
Pope/Ramsdale
Tino/Trippier/Krafth/Ashby
Schar/Thiaw/Lascelles
Burn/Botman
Hall/Tino
Bruno/Miley/Harrison
Tonali/Schar?
Joelinton/Ramsey/Willock
Gordon/Barnes
Wissa/Woltemade/Osula
Elanga/Murphy
Possible bench: Ramsey / Tripper / Thiaw / Botman / Ramsey / Miley / Barnes / Woltemade / Murphy
Injuries and suspensions will make it unlikely we?ll be able to do that often? but wow!!!
Money to spend in Jan (if we have to, as there is never good value then) but certainly next summer? with a big season ahead for Miley, and while I have put Schar down to backfill Tonali if need be, that?s probably an area we will need to look at in the next window we spend in? but we?re now in a position that if we choose to improve on some players, the outgoing player would command a decent to a good/very good fee. Though probably important to recognise the ages of Schar and Burn? we might need to invest without much/any recouped fee?s in those positions.
But now we have a solid squad, and we have pretty much wiped away PSR concerns for a good few years, it becomes easier to wheel and deal and improve the quality across the board in the squad? we can be selective about where we improve, instead of having to bring in multiple players just to get a good bench? we?re now at that stage and can look to add serious quality instead of having to spread the money thin? we?ll still be restricted by wages for a few years, so we could end up losing another of our best till we can compete? but as long as we get the right money in for them and reinvest well, that could be gutting at the time, but still help us accelerate? just like the sale of Isak has this summer, by letting us spend and still staying comfortably within PSR with the ability to still spend big if the right player becomes available for what we need.
