  • Schar

Has been confirmed that he'll be out for a few games.

Not a surprise after the smash to the head he took.

I personally think his time as a guarenteed first teamer is coming to an end. I think that Thiaw will take this oppertunity and he'll hold that first team place.

This isn't to disparage Schar, he's ****ing immense and brilliant but age is catching up with him.

    Completely agree mate.

Thiaw looked very composed with the ball at his feet and dropped the shoulder, turned players with the ball and made lots of space for himself.

One pass to Tino, cross field after dropping the shoulder and making space for himself was a cut above the quality we've seen from an CB aside from Botman and maybe Florian Lejeune.

It's a changing of the guard moment.

The nuts thing about Schar is that he seems to always get smashed in the head almost every single match. The man is a true warrior, a cult hero and a stalwart.

He has my 100% support, respect and I'm proud he's a Newcastle United player. The way he came back from the cabbage basically forcing him out of the club to the player he's been for the last 2 / 3 yrs.

Credit to the man. However, time waits for no man and it certainly looks like it might be Thiaw Time

I was hugely impressed by Thiaw's basically first real outing, he puts himself about uses his height and size really well. Hopefully we'll see him start now.

        Absolutely bang on. Jammy.

He's been incredible for us but the cracks are beginning to show. A CB pairing of Thiaw and a fit Botman is likely to be up there with the best in the league, imo.

Fair play to him- Schar has been undroppable and for me, he still is.

Gonna be a tough act for Thiaw to follow - and he?s going to have to show he himself is undroppable himself now.

Love the competition we have across that back 5 mind

Agree with all of you and how lucky are we to have 2 old hands with 2 young guns ready to integrate. Schar is one of our best ever and IMO still has plenty to give over the next season or 2 but maybe its time to rest the old bones a bit more often as the season progresses. Plenty of games to go round for everyone anyway.

After he took a knock to the head against Liverpool he should have been straight off the pitch with the latest one.

Medical department havenÂ’t made many mistakes recently, but that was a big one.

To be honest Thiaw looked quality when he came on, and itÂ’s not the worst thing, and he needs games sooner than later to get up to match fitness in games.

Burn might also have to look over his shoulder, we probably need Botman (if fit) to start building an understanding with Thiaw, as these are the future and probably in the not too distant either.

Hard to knock him, but his clearance (if you can call it that) basically put the ball a couple of metres onto Rashford foot, and I have no idea why he spins like he does (other than maybe protecting himself), and it was the spin and deflection off him that put their second inÂ… Pope was well positions for the shot until that point.

Both been great servants of the club, and rightfully part of history for us with the League Cup winÂ… but my concern is Eddie is overly loyal to players, and we will only see the likes of Thiaw and Botman come in when his hand is forced, then when we need them they wonÂ’t be up to speed or have a decent understanding between them.

In my humble opinion Schar has been one if not the best players for a number of years and every match he puts his body/ head in the way
look at our match against wolves and his last ditch tackle to stop a certain goal and every game he puts in one or two cross field balls which are unbelievable

Yes, and he scores goals - all screamers. Can you think of a Toon CB who has scored more? Gotta be up there all time.

...only 3 above him. Kenny Wharton, Frank Hudspeth and Neil McDonald.

Hes an immense player for us. If he plays like he is then I dont care if hes 55 years old.
Thiaw looks very promising but hes got a job on his hands to oust Schar.

Yes, totally agree plus Schar has got great passing which we missed today and he likes to have a crack at goal now and then from distance. What we need is a 40 year old head on a 21 year old body.

Sch?r is a very unique centre back as his passing game is so exceptional. Like someone else mentioned, we're in four comps this season - there should be plenty of games for both Thiaw and Sch?r to excel in this season.
