  • Clean sheets

    Saw this interesting stat today:

It took Newcastle until the 17th PL game of last season ? the last game before Christmas ? to record their fifth clean sheet; this season, they?re at five after seven games. The fastest they?d previously reached five clean sheets in a PL season was 11 games (2005, 2022, 2023)

Pope also has the most clean sheets of any keeper thus far.

If we could get Tino, Botman, Thiaw and Hall all playing, I wouldn't swap it for any back 4 in the league.

The defence we have assembled as you've mentioned Zipsterino, the 4 we have on good contracts on the books long term as you've mentioned above, are potentially the form one of the best defences in Europe.

Where Rambo Ramsdale is the man to make them the Fab 5 in goal remains to be seen.

However, getting to a point where the starting line up of:

RB - Tino, RCB - Thiaw. LCB - Botman, LB - Hall

put NUFC is a conversation for the title. That foundation, as we're already seeing in patchwork form, is proving to be the most stingy tight defence in the Prem so far this season.

When at full strength that can only continue/improve.

With the team evolving in terms of flexibility, learning / integrating Elanga & Woltemade into the attack we're starting to see goals over the last few games.

As the attack continues to improve, Wissa and Ramsey back in the fold to raise levels in training plus providing Howe more options and tactical flexibility in set up and in game, we're only going to improve.

      The only way is up!

The age profile and the quality of the players in that back 4 is testament to the quality recruitment since the take over.

The depth at CB is as good as any in the Prem, Better than the current champions without doubt.

Full-back we're taken a battering but still field a Former England RB at RB and a Current England player at LB.

Admittedly Burn at LB isn't ideal but he's no slouch! With the right coverage the team still has the best defence in the Prem.
