Shows how easily the gullible were swayed by a few press conferences and sound bites. A lot of Europe has responded badly (France included) but your boy seems to have had a particularly bad game. And Brexit preparations impacted the response too. Good job the Tories have realised how a bit of socialism can help. Roll on the wealth tax.
A lot on there that doesn't surprise me. For example we already knew that it's hard to get Boris to come to work when he's on holiday (same as when the riots were happening in 2011), and that Cummings would be in favour of a high-risk / high-reward strategy like herd immunity.

Boris will be fine though, he's got charisma and more importantly still got the tabloids / Mail and Express on side.

Any PM who can cheerfully announce that he's been walking round a hospital with Coronavirus patients shaking hands with everyone, then take up a hospital bed and leave a power vacuum during a crisis, leave his pregnant partner, his top advisor and half the cabinet either I'll or in self-isolation, and come out to be acclaimed a national hero obviously has a hell of a lot of credit with certain editors.

Yes, but he got Brexit done!

How dare these people criticise the greatest PM of all time. It's just the sort of thing you grow to expect from those scruffy terrorist-loving Marxists at The Times.

I wouldn’t say they are scruffy.

        • Williamson doing the press conference today, another person sacked by the previous PM, this time for leaking classified information. And we’re supposed to take him seriously.

I feel so sorry for everyone directly affected by this shambles, I’m really really trying to not get too wound up, anyone with at least half a brain knew this would be a total clown show. And everyone knows that once it’s all over, there’ll be an inquiry, lessons will be ‘learned’ and we'll move on to the next fiasco.

          Keep calm.

Irrespective of how quickly or slowly it was implemented, I would agree that the Government's response to this situation does have a socialist feel about it. You don't often see a Conservative government actively endorse the virtual closure of the economy and sanction such huge public expenditure, but obviously I understand the pressure they and many other western governments (of all political persuasions) were under to do so.

At this moment a lot of people are pointing to the number of deaths from the virus flattening out in this and many other countries and concluding that the lockdown is proving successful, but let's see how long it takes to develop an effective vaccine, and what happens as and when the lockdown becomes socially and economically unsustainable. It's too early to start drawing conclusions about whether the preferred national and global response to this pandemic has been worthwhile, or futile.

You are probably right, and to refer back to the thread title we will only know how impressive the leadership has been when this is over. When it is, we will have to compare the response of our government and it's effectiveness compared to global governments to get some sort of idea. At the moment my gut feeling is that Germany will have handled it better than us, and the USA worse than us. I think that we eventually took the correct actions, but two weeks too late.

You and your lot should have been running the country, it would have been over now.

It wouldn't, but I've never wanted to put myself forward to run the country, but those who do should accept the praise or blame for the job they do. So what is your evaluation of the government performance so far?

Oops sorry everyone, I asked him a direct question. I should have known that's when he always runs away and hides like a scared little child.

But you didn't pluck up the courage to respond - you ran away from the question and hid in your usual cowardly fashion!

It's there for all to see.

The simple question was "So what is your evaluation of the government performance so far?"

                            1/250 he runs and hides
                            250/1 he gives an answer

I don't even need to build a profit margin into this one!

                            • The government has obviously made mistakes, like you said Germany have handled it better and the USA worse.
This is unprecedented and Boris and his cronies are not experts in this, so rely on their advisors who are supposed to be medical experts.
That is what any government would do in this situation so maybe the advice wasn't always correct.
From a personal point of view I'm glad that NZ have handled it especially well but it will probably be a while before we can go to see our new grandson due in August.
