Never fear, jabination is here. I'd spent a fortune kitting out that shed but I suppose she can move back in now.

Do they need to be 100% effective? Most quotes are for a 90% or 95% protection and what about the R number? If that gets and stays below 1, which it will when most people are vaccinated, then the spread will reduce as fewer and fewer people become infected. There will always be people who, for various reasons, will refuse to have "chemicals" injected into their body but as the percentage of the general population who have been vaccinated gradually outnumber (and outlive) them the virus will die out.

One mistake, I believe, is that instead of *****-footing about being nice to everyone, the UK should have been told that we are at war with an unseen enemy and taken all measures to prevent it. Instead of HM Forces being at the front line, this time it is the NHS and all support services. In that circumstance you also call up anyone else that can contribute, whether it's Jo Public delivering goods from A to B, or whatever. You also allow decisions to be taken to override some of the democratic niceties, as highlighted, for example, in the NHS requirement that all must pass the woke tests - the absurd PC brigade have some uses, but please ...
Sounds a bit like Marxism. Never had you down as one of them Hoss.

"Emmanuel Macron’s coronavirus vaccine rollout branded ‘biggest fiasco in medical history’
EMMANUEL MACRON is battling a coronavirus vaccine "fiasco" as officials vow to speed up the country's jab rollout - which has so far been slow.
            By EDWARD BROWNE
            PUBLISHED: 05:45,Tue, Jan 5, 2021
The country (France) reported 516 vaccinations in the first week the rollout was announced, according to public health data tool CovidTracker. The number is far below the tens of thousands of daily vaccinations needed for France to reach its target of one million doses administered by the end of this month.

Martin Blachier, a French health expert and epidemiologist, went so far as to call the slow rollout “the biggest fiasco we’ve ever had in the medical world”, the BBC reports.

French officials are claiming the delay is due to logistics, with teams being sent to care homes and also needing consent.

However, reports are also pointing to France’s population which is described as vaccine-sceptical. The country is struggling to roll out a jab quickly. An Ipsos poll conducted late last year suggested only 40 percent of those polled planned to be vaccinated.

A health ministry official at the time said the country was setting up for “a marathon” and not a sprint.

Olivier Véran, France’s Minister of Health, has now claimed “several thousand people” were vaccinated against coronavirus on Monday.

Polls suggest France's population is reluctant to take the vaccine. He added this number would increase through this week as vaccinations centres rapidly multiply.

In addition, Government spokesman Gabriel Attal has insisted vaccination rollout will “really take off this week” and claimed 500,000 doses would be available from nearly 100 medical centres by tomorrow.

Yesterday’s alleged figures mark an improvement from last week, though France currently remains behind other European countries such as Germany, which had vaccinated around 238,000 people as of Sunday.

The UK also had a head-start of a few weeks compared with the rest of Europe, as Britain’s rollout of the Pfizer/BioNTech jab began on December 7.

European nations, meanwhile, began their rollout on the weekend of December 26. According to analysts, France’s rollout woes could prove harmful for President Emmanuel Macron’s re-election prospects.

Analysts say the vaccine rollout could affect Mr Macron's re-election. Chloé Morin, a social scientist who has worked with the French Government in the past, told European news site Politico the vaccine rollout would be “extremely symbolic” for Mr Macron and that “the stakes are very big.”

The French president faces re-election in 2022 when the nation goes to the polls.

The Netherlands remains the only EU country not to have started a vaccine rollout at all. The EU began its vaccine rollout in late December. The launch there had been set for January 8, though it has now been brought forward to tomorrow.

The UK began the rollout of its second coronavirus vaccine this week – the domestically-produced Oxford/AstraZeneca jab."

... of course it's Daily Express print, but it's source is the BBC; so surely that cannot be questioned ...
Yes we would gaze in admiration at the great British COVID response. But in truth we are too busy shopping, fetching kids from school and meeting friends.
You do know that countries in the EU have the right to do their own thing, don't you ? That healthcare is not an EU competance ? The French and Dutch have been slow in rolling out the vaccine, here partly in the mistaken belief it would placate the right-wing loony-tunes anti-vaxxers but that was wrong and has now been corrected. I'd still bet we vaccinate more than UK by the year end. How long before Boris announces a privatised vaccination drive headed by one of his mates hedge-funds ?

The French are just more cautious and bureaucratic but once they get going it will be done right. I know where I would rather be.

Yes I noticed that and I have to say I'm happy about it. Trump's antics over the last couple of weeks have been off the scale, even by his low standards.

Then we will probably have to wait another 4 years to kick out the left wing nutters

Yeah, he and his enablers have lost the plot. If they ever had it.

Big responsibility on Biden to now push through some properly progressive policies while he and the Dems hold all the levers of power.

Yeah if you mean economically progressive then I wholeheartedly agree.

I'm watching a few live updates, and it's beyond surreal. I know America had a civil war way back in the 1800s, but the outgoing president (and he will 100% be the outgoing president) seems hell bent on starting another one. His pressure on Mike Pence to do something that he couldn't legally do was reprehensible, but now he seems determined to sink even lower. His statements at his rally are pretty much an incitement to violence, and there are enough lunatics among his supporters to carry it out.

After he's dragged kicking and screaming out of the White House, I'm torn as to where his next residence should be. It's either a prison cell or a psychiatric ward, preferably the former.

What do you reckon the reaction of law enforcement would be to those protesters if they were black? The same? Different?
