I was a bit surprised to see him go to Gateshead, I thought Norwich would have wanted him to go to an EFL club next. Maybe Gateshead gave some sort of guarantee that he will be first choice, because he needs regular games in order to progress.Originally posted by PTID1862 View Postthe only thing I can think of is that we wanted a permanent signing, and Archie just wasn't available for that to happen

That's what I assumed as well, last thing we need is get reliant on a loan keeper only for him to be recalled like Patterson was. Also I'd imagine Norwich want him to play more games than we we'd be offering. Be interesting to see how Archie gets on this season though.Originally posted by PTID1862 View Postthe only thing I can think of is that we wanted a permanent signing, and Archie just wasn't available for that to happen

He wanted first team football and we wanted a keeper with EFL experience. Would also imagine it would only have been a loan and we probably wanted a permanent senior keeperOriginally posted by cher1 View PostSo Archie Mair is there for the season. It must have been covered on here before and I've missed it, but does anyone know why we weren't in for him? Presumably we were after sometimes who's played more first team games?

Yes, for all those reasons...
And who knows, maybe Norwich were ready to let him move on (they had about 6 keepers when I last checked their website) but seeing him pull off those amazing saves (see avatar) on such a big stage might have convinced them to keep him on their books.
I think the worst is over for Slocs in terms of nervy mistakes (the worst happened, we got away with it, put it behind you) and aside from those his sweeper-keeper play last season was really good
Btw, so many of our goals conceded from mistakes are due to players receiving the ball in our own half being flat-footed, static and then picked off or forced into an errors. Solve that and we'll eliminate a big % of those type of goals.

I thought he was very athletic but technically and decision making wise struggled at times.Originally posted by Proactive not Reactive View PostI agree was excellent when he joined us, tailed off a bit as youngsters tend to do and unfortunately a lot of Notts fans remember him for the push v Grimsby -very pacy
Find it astonishing that out the two that went to Aberdeen that it’s Cal that’s found himself at the NLN and that’s not me thinking Richardson should have dropped there, just starting to wonder if Cal has some underlying injury problems preventing him getting a higher league club.

Don’t recall him being known as injury prone prior to joining Notts. Sure there was news at the time that he had suffered from long covid which was preventing his return to fitness at Notts. He’s gone to Aberdeen and got injured, now S****horpe and injured. Hope for his sake it’s not a common theme as the season he came to Notts, he was fantastic. Never suited us as number 8 or wing back. We let him go at the right time for the right price.Originally posted by matt_magpie View PostI thought he was very athletic but technically and decision making wise struggled at times.
