He was asking for defenders in January in our first L2 season but we recruited forwards instead including Morias
Would he have left anyway when Swansea came in?
Probably , as would most of us in his position
Morias was signed in the NL, we got Jayden Warner in Jan in the EFL which looked a fairly good shout at the time as quite a few Norwich fans thought he?d get more game time with them, obviously didn?t work out.

    • Just before he left LW was publicly making critical comments about the defence when we were in a strong position and could have pushed that bit harder if his requirements had been met. Same as last winter with SM; We were desperate for a forward and a midfield player that could do the business with promotion almost nailed on yet both LW and SM were let down/ignored. Now that could be coincidence, financial restrictions or the knowledge that both LW and SM would be gone and their requests would go with them? A combination of the three I think.

      • Both January transfer windows were abysmal, every bid as bad as the Hardy/Nolan debacle in 2018.

        • Jan?s hard clubs don?t want to really let good players go due to the short turnaround to get someone else in.

Priske?s gone back to Sparta Prague.

We’ve signed two young, inexperienced defenders on loan in recent January windows - Warner, and Johnson from Sunderland - and neither proved a success. Let’s hope we don’t need another next January.

It’s interesting - to me anyway - that we haven’t gone back to the NL for signings since we got promoted. Is that because there isn’t that much young talent at that level? Or does our scouting/tracking system not cover non-league now?

            • is it not the case that the January window is simply about economics and time scales ! i think We mainly get players in on loan, as not to financially over stretch our self and leave us with a Donkey that could be a financial burden. January just does not give you the luxury of checking players like the pre season period does. I would suggest that come January the majority of the budget has been allocated?. As i see it the Brothers focus their attention on pre season assembling a squad that should see the season out. January is for emergencies only whether that be injuries or figures transferred out of the club.

You're right about Morias coming in during the NL days.
Overall though Luke was frustrated that players were often acquired regardless of what the first team needed at the time
I believe that the bust up with Matty Saunders was at least partly to do with him pushing back at the club modus operandi - amongst other things
                But there it is

Does that stack up though when he recommended Richard Montinue for Swansea. My feeling is he was happy with the defence at the start of the season and stayed loyal, think he said as much and then wanted better in January.

I would say really good transfer business in January is an exception more than the norm for any club.

That was the issue this Jan, it was virtually impossible to replace Crowley ability wise at any time and probably really hard to get even close in Jan. That said we should have done better it was a great opportunity to get promoted.

Yeah I?m surprised we haven?t dipped in the NL, other clubs have and the system will still cover the NL I would have thought as it makes total sense to look in the league below you for talent. They must think no ones quite good enough or maybe outbid by others.

Maybe a serious tilt at a cup (Carabao/FA) run would help the economics and open up the budget?

It's about value for money. Players that stand out in the NL appear on everyone's radar now and the owner clubs expectations of selling fees have shot up considerably as have player/agent expectations of salary.

Saunders departure had nothing to do with what you're suggesting.

Correct - which is why I said amongst other things
TBH I don't have all the facts on what went on with Saunders, just that there was a bust up
