It's fair to say it didnt work, but I wouldn't call it a car crash to be honest. We still finished higher than most people predicted in their pre-season predictions and those predictions were made over the summer assuming we would have Jones and Crowley.Originally posted by matt_magpie View PostThe 2 are totally different, we can call him a BT engineer, managing lowly part time Wealdstone but the facts were Weldstone were one of two part time teams in the NL playing expansive football with absolutely no budget hardly and surviving.
Did it work out? No, was it a car crash? No, but to then suggest we are going recruit someone with absolutely no experience of actually being a manager/head coach of a mens team seems a bit of a stretch.
But yes, you would hope Alves being odds on is just a tiny betting market being influenced by a small amount of money.

I've been away from Nottingham most of the time since 2003, and when I left I had a pretty low opinion of it. When I come back now as a tourist I see a different (better) side to it. It doesn't seem as rough as it used to (less casual violence) or maybe I just dont stay out as late anymore, but you still notice things like security guards in supermarkets and fast food places that don't seem to be necessary in the other countries I've lived in.Originally posted by hissingdwarf View PostGot to admit, the city centre really is poor now. We went to Manchester last weekend and my god, the difference is startling. People enjoying themselves, shops open (not the owners fault in Nottm, but it is fast becoming a ghost city) lovely ‘quarters’ to visit and a great transport system.
Nottm has suffered the worst decline in a long time imo.
Saying that, my missus comes from a picturesque Italian town / small city and for reasons I can't fathom absolutely loves Nottingham and insists we spend some time there every year.

Odds Checker show last club coached &, Alves shows Servette I think 2012. Don't know how true the info is but the ones we know are correct on there for previous clubOriginally posted by slack_pie View PostIn the context of him following Maynard, it would be way worse than appointing Maynard in the first place. We clearly need someone with experience managing a team at this level successfully. If they appoint Alves, I'll sadly think for the first time that they don't know what they're doing. He wasn't even a coach until a couple of years ago.
I'm 99% sure they won't though. It'll be someone not even on the list yet.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he was a scout in Portugal, then the coach of a university side in England, then worked for Football Radar for seven years, then joined Notts as an analyst before being joining the coaching team a couple of years ago. No mention of Servette.Originally posted by irishpete View PostOdds Checker show last club coached &, Alves shows Servette I think 2012. Football Coach
Brunel University AFC
Sep 2015 - Mar 2021 5 years 7 months
London, United Kingdom
To plan and deliver football sessions to Brunel University's football teams.
To manage teams on matchdays.
To recruit on trial days, and assess players performances. These are then used to assess if players are in the right teams on a weekly basis.
That was while working for Football Radar. Before that it says that he was a scout at VSL, Madeira Portugal 2012 - 13.
I really hope that we wouldn't appoint him - Maynard was a calculated risk I think (and imo not that far off being successful) but Alves would be a huge risk. Having said that, all assistant head coaches have to start somewhere .......
For me, if possible, Des Buckingham.

Seems pretty obvious in hindsight but SM had his days numbered when there was no replacements for the Saunders and I don't think for one minute he said he could do it on his own. He had been given targets and had admittedly failed to achieve them for whatever reason. Wouldn't be a shock if the new person was announced pretty quickly.

We've been here before, wildcard names decreasing in odds to become the favourite, dismissed as being the result of a handful of jokers putting money on or their agents trying to raise their profile, only to see them appointed within 24 hours. I'll never forget the disbelief at Fullarton when they stopped taking bets and then it was announced.
I might be wrong, but I don't think the Faeroe Islands pub team manager was ever favourite, always an outsider but became a talking point when he was rising above more sensible candidates.
You wouldn't put it past them, as that's where we've been at for some time. We don't employ people to be managers in the real sense of the word and that must put a lot of people off applying.

For the love of god surely they wouldn?t appoint himYes it would. I'm a big supporter of the owners, but now isn't the time to appoint an inexperienced and anonymous coach as manager. I fear that would lose a large section of the fanbase very quickly, and put Alves under huge pressure before a ball even got kicked.Originally posted by Elite_Pie View PostIf they did, in terms of pissing off the fanbase it would rival the Trews appointing Fullarton.
Maynard was a bit of a gamble but most fans ran with it for a while because they wondered if he might be another Luke Williams. The Maynard project having not worked out as well as hoped, now is the time for a solid, recognisable appointment that the fans can believe in and get behind. A reasonably experienced manager with a decent track record to date.

Let's hope it's a repeat of that scenario then. If he's not appointed by the end of tomorrow (today being a bank holiday), then we can probably breathe out.Originally posted by carnthepies View PostHe was 4/6 favourite at one point: https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport...r-odds-7145225

Ha!Originally posted by IPieWithMyLittleEye View PostI think you're all over reacting given the upturn in performance when Alves replaced the Saunders' brothers in January...
Well yes, there was a definite drop-off in the performance of the whole team in the second half of the season, and whether you blame it more on the departure of Saunders or the loss of a creative player in Crowley, the remaining coaching team clearly didn't have the answers. I can see why Alves might still have a supporting role at the club, but whatever he brought to the coaching set-up didn't improve us (or even maintain previous performance levels) after Christmas.
