Yeah that is my gut feeling too but he’d be my choice looking at all the names.Originally posted by matt_magpie View PostI think we?d do extremely well to get Evatt or Buckingham. I?m guessing they?ll have one eye on the champ but probably happy with L1.
As Elite said earlier 49 names on betting and there is a good chance it’s none of them !

The problem is where do you look if likes of Evatt are being linked to Huddersfield/Cardiff ?Originally posted by Chicken Balti Pie View PostNot another non league manager, I thought we'd escaped that place
You either go for a merry go round manager, a rookie like Wilshere or random foreign coach.
I know absolutely nothing about this guy in fact I’d never heard of him until a few days ago

We might have asked people like Evatt and Buckingham via agents but there is some fairly big L1 clubs who’d blow us out the water financially.Originally posted by SmiffyPie View PostYou show him/her the intent and you make the offer to get them. But I don't think we will do that.
There are gems out there it is just finding them and having some luck on the way too.
We are a big club by L2 standards but like everything now it depends how many benjamins you could afford to put on the table and also another factor is the higher profile the mnager/coach will they want more control over recruitment and perhaps playing style ?

Another one that seems like the kind of appointment the club would make. Around a similar age to Burchnall, Williams and Maynard were when they were appointed.Originally posted by BigFatPie View PostAdam Hinshelwood now 1/2.
He has done an incredible job at York since going there in February last year. Getting 96 points in a season is enough for automatic promotion in any other league.

Huddersfield have gone for a relative unknown, Lee Grant. But yeah I can imagine the likes of Evatt waiting for the first round of sackings in Octoberish.Originally posted by legs77 View PostThe problem is where do you look if likes of Evatt are being linked to Huddersfield/Cardiff ?

Hinshelwood has done very well with his previous clubs, but at non league level. 1/2 is quite a big move from where he was.

That move on Hinshelwood is the first where I?ve thought there could be something in it. Would be fine with it tbh, York to Notts is a far more natural move up than Wealdstone to Notts and a 96-point season from anyone is worth looking at.

Food for thought in your post. Aiden Hinshelwood is a bit of a halfway house between IB and LW for me judging by their experience in the National League. Aiden Hinshelwood has achieved more in the National League than SM did albeit Wealdstone were part time and more than Burchnall although Burchnall got us to playoff semi finals but we did not have such a good season as York have just had under IB. He's not quite achieved as much as Luke Williams did at that level with us as York did not get to the National League final or did not get promoted despite having a fantastic season.Originally posted by legs77 View PostWe might have asked people like Evatt and Buckingham via agents but there is some fairly big L1 clubs who?d blow us out the water financially.

I could understand the logic in this one.Last edited by MAD_MAGPIE; 28-05-2025, 10:34 PM.

The way that Hinshelwood has suddenly appeared might mean there’s something in it…or it might mean some random bloke threw ?20 at it and boom.
Seems a logical choice for the brothers. I’d rather have Buckingham or back to LW personally, but a manager that achieved 96 points is worthy of consideration.
More importantly, does he play 4 at the back and does he refuse to utter the phrase “inverted wingbacks?” If so, he’ll do

I don?t mind inverted wingers it?s common place more so than non inverted, has to utilise JJ and Jarvis further forward whoever it is as it will be a crime not to if Jarvis is fully up to speed after a pre-season with us.Originally posted by hissingdwarf View PostThe way that Hinshelwood has suddenly appeared might mean there’s something in it…or it might mean some random bloke threw ?20 at it and boom.

One thing we can?t do is go for a manager on the cheap, it?s one person and they can make a massive difference.
He seems a good option but we really need someone the fans get behind at the start, some never got behind SM before a ball was kicked and it?s not healthy for the club and probably gave some players an out too.

Good point. Not all managers are wanting to coach in the Champions League or EPL or Championship. Some may have tried it and it hasn't worked, so they have to regroup and start again. A sideways or slightly backward step.Originally posted by legs77 View PostWe might have asked people like Evatt and Buckingham via agents but there is some fairly big L1 clubs who?d blow us out the water financially.

I'm in agreement with what George Vizard says on the Pavis Perspective, that we look upwards rather than downwards. What Notts County can offer is some form of certainty in the role. Yes, that you won't get sacked after 6 games, but if you don't perform after 12-15 months, then you better start looking.
Notts have had a few managers who have done this in the past and they have been ok (Sirrell, Cotterill etc.). The problem is that Notts are going to turn off many managers who expect and want to run the playing aspects by themselves - not being dealt a load of players and then being told to make the best of them.
I personally wouldn't want a role with those requirements in place. If things are going wrong, you can't bring in players you need to shore up the gaps. I think all of the Notts managers under the Reedtz brothers have experienced this problem.
