I just can't see Alves being the new gaffer tbh. The owners are really trying to push the self sustainable narrative. You don't become self sustainable, unless you have people coming through the turnstile. It would be a massive risk, and one I'm not so sure the owners would be willing to take at this stage. After Maynard and with the nucleus of a good squad, it feels we are once again at or Williams moment. We need somebody with a bit of charisma, somebody that has the arrogance to say I'm going to come in and take you up.

It does seem to be something of a trend within football at the moment for clubs to expect staff, particularly young members of staff, to work unpaid. I saw an advert for an analyst at Gillingham recently that was unpaid, but the applicant had to provide their own equipment (had to be a MacBook for some reason), and their own transport to and from games, which I find ridiculous.

Can't take the betting odds as any guide at all. My guess would be IF Alves is to be involved he would be the experienced guide for a younger manager.Originally posted by Kyle95 View PostI just can't see Alves being the new gaffer tbh. Alves has only been a league coach for a year.
Prior to that he has 8 years coaching experience up to head football coach at a university, and 8 years as an analyst and another year as an "assistant" in notts county.
While that's a great background to start your career as a head coach or manager, it still makes him a basic newbie at it at our level and I don't regard him as a credible candidate.
If he went to head up a NL team and outperformed his budget by a wide margin for a couple of years? Then I'd consider it. But he just doesn't have the competitive experience we would need.
It would be a huge risk to sign him into the role and with the owners still pitching in... what is it, still at least two million pounds a year at this level, even with all the players we recently sold? I don't see them taking that risk.

I agree. I don't know why people are so bothered by the odds tbh. I don't even think Burchnall or Williams appeared on the odds. Notts are pretty good at keeping things secret these days.Originally posted by bule1 View PostCan't take the betting odds as any guide at all. But what experience does he have to guide anyone? I think Football Radar need to back off and leave it to the professionals.Originally posted by bule1 View PostCan't take the betting odds as any guide at all. Having said that, Wilshere is back in the frame, and has no real experience as a manager. But I wouldn't be against him, to be fair, at least we might get some press attention.

I've got fond memories of the Moniz era as well, but he gets off a bit lightly I think.
He's got a relegation and the worst final day relegation fiasco ever at Gillingham to his name. And a cup defeat to the then non-league Salford. Yeah, the Branson thing was terrible for him, but weren't we staying up at 2-1 down, only to not understand and go for it and let in another, and 3-1 relegated us?
